I wake up from my nap and open my eyes. Outside, it looked like it was a new day. It should be the afternoon by now. I take my phone from under my pillow and I see it's about 6 in the morning. I must've sleep for 14 hours straight. I also see also see a text from Delilah.

Hey best friend! I'm back! Kayaking was actually fun if you take out the fact I fell out of the water thanks to my partner. Anyway, we were saying? -Delilah

I text back to Delilah.

Hi best friend! Oh, well that sucks lol. Can't talk today since I'm going to be working in the fields today. -Astrid

As I try to remember what happened yesterday, it all felt like it happened a few days ago rather than yesterday. From my many hours of sleep, I felt great. Unfortunately, the energy in me would be used for working in the sun.

As I sit up in bed, my dad comes in without even knocking. He smiles to see me awake. "Wow, you must be excited because I sure am. Get ready and have something to eat please. It's going to be a busy day today."

I sigh of frustration. I slowly uncover the blanket off me and walk to my closet. I find an outfit that would be good for working outside. Mainly, it was just a plaid T-shirt and some old jeans I had with me. For shoes, I decided to wear my scrubby-looking-yet-in-great-shape combat boots. Mom kept telling me to throw them out but I kept them in case of a situation like this. After I changed, I left my pj's on my bed to wear tonight.

I walked to the bathroom and did my business, brushed my teeth, and did my hair in a braid. Next, I walked to the kitchen and decided to have microwaveable pancakes. I take them out of the freezer and put 3 large ones on my plate. I set in the microwave to heat it up for 60 seconds. I take out the syrup, milk, a glass, and silverware.

I take my pancakes out of the microwave and drizzle on my syrup on each pancake, layering them one on top of the other. As I'm cutting my pancakes, my mom and Bridget come walking into the kitchen. My mom and Bridget are wearing somewhere similar to mine, but Bridget has old tennis shoes on. Mom and I have old combat boots.

My mom looked at my shoes. "I thought I told you to throw them away about 3 weeks ago."

I said as I finished cutting my pancakes and walked to the table. "You did. I kept them in case of a situation like this."

Bridget laughed, "Look, we're all matching."

I looked at everyone around us. We were matching. The plaid shirts were all a different color but we all wore that with jeans and shoes we wouldn't mind getting dirty. My shirt was gray, my mom's was green, my dad's was dark blue, and Bridget's was orange.

I ignored the fact we were matching and started eating my pancakes.

Dad told us that the Cahill family were going to meet us at the fence which separates our property from theirs. We started walking to the fence and I noticed how the sky had clouds and there was a soft breeze. This first day might not be as bad as it looks.

We reached the fence which separated our property and the Cahill family were already there. Andrew and James had overalls on. Sandy and Hunter had on jeans and plaid T-shirts just like us.

I also noticed that everyone had a cowboy hat in their hands as they were wearing one also. I could see that our hats had our names stitched onto the hat.

James said, "Since we're going to be working with each other, we decided to get y'all cowboy hats. As you guys were gone for registering your children, we had a friend of ours stitch your names onto these hats. Think of it as a welcoming gift also."
