Scene 4

*River is sat on her bed crying. Megan enters*

Megan: Oh River! Honey! I'm so sorry! *she walks over to the bed and sits and hugs River* I can't believe he hit you! I mean i get what you did was wrong but hitting you was...

River: You should have stopped me. Talked sense into me.

M: It's not my job to stop you having fun.

R: Does it look like i'm having fun to you? You could have talked sense into me! Stopped me from ruining my life!

M: I'm not your mother. You don't need me to look after you all the time.

R: I'm not fucking asking you to! I just wished you'd said something to me.

M: You didn't love each other.

R: How the fuck would you know? You've never been in love in your entire life! You just jump from one guy to the next like the fucking village bike.

M:*cutting in* We were cheating on you!

*river has a moment of stunned silence*

R: What?

M: I know that he doesn't love you because he was cheating on you.

R: *with slow realisation* You said "we"

*river looks at Megan and Megan slowly lifts her head apologetically*

R: This is some fucked up joke, isn't it?

M: We were going to tell you, I swear, we just didn't know how.

R: Didn't know how? How about, "oh, by the way, River, I know we've been best friend for 8 years now but I'm fucking your boyfriend behind your back!" How long has this been going on?

M: You cheated too!

R: I said how long?!

M: Three months.*river gives a small but sarcastic laugh* But you did cheat on him as well.

R: There's a big difference between one night of drunken mistakes compared to three months of lying and betrayal.

M: I get that you're hurt but...

R: Get out.

Megan: River, let's just ta...

R: I said get out!

*megan gets up and walks towards off stage. she stops and looks back at River, who has collapsed on her bed crying, and continues to exit stage. River gets a text. it reads "Hey, it's Dylan Shaw. Was wondering if you wanted to have that catch up?"
