• Eleanor's POV •

I took a look at my surroundings, seeing my class mates bonding with each other in the tour bus. My best friend, Rosie, sat next to me as she listened to music on her phone.

Rosie and I came from Rome to California to attend the university, UCLA so that we can have a brighter future. We were currently on a field trip for a college student summer program camp in New Jersey. It was a very long ride, but it was fun, I guess.

I looked out the window seeing a huge sign captioned 'WELCOME TO NEW JERSEY' and I smiled, realizing we had arrived in the city. The bus passed many huge buildings and it was quite late, 6PM and the city lights had came on.

I took several pictures that I would later on send to my parents, back in Rome, Italy.

When we had got to our hotel, all our class got rooms and then we decided to explore for a while. Macy, a girl in our class, brought a bunch of marshmallow packs for us to eat later, since we all decided to have a camp fire in the forest behind the hotel. We were now back in our hotel room.

"isn't it beautiful here?" i gushed.

Rosie turned to me. "yeah, it is." she smiles. "this summer is going to be amazing. i hope."

"hey, it will be. i'm making sure we go everywhere. we're going to have the best time here." i tell her.

Rosie smiled and turned on the TV which was currently on the news channel. I wasn't the type of person who watches the news, but this certain one had caught Rosie and I's attention. The headline was 'Breaking News: THE PLAGUE'. The news anchors voice filled the room:

"Recently, most countries in Africa and some parts of Europe have been hit by the deadly virus that has been killing and affecting about five thousand people per day. Unaffected citizens have been evacuated from their home countries into other countries for their well being. Scientists have predicted that the deadly virus could affect half of the human race. But the real question is - do you think this could end huma-"

I had enough. I snatched the remote control from Rosie's hand and turned off the TV. Her facial expression had turned from happiness to a sense of concern and worry.

"El, what about our families..." She trailed off.

"They're fine, Rosie. The news guy said some parts of Europe. Don't worry about it. Let's just enjoy our summer, yeah?"

"But shouldn't we call them? To just check up?"

"We'll call them later."

She nods and then we head down to the lobby where the whole class was. Some of them turned to us.

"Did you two see the news?" one of the guys said.

"Yeah. Let's not talk about it." I say rudely. He shrugs and then we all head out to the forest where we would start our campfire.

Rosie seemed so off now, so i tried to lighten up her mood.

When we all got there, we sat down on the ground and the guys started the bonfire, and we got comfy and warm.

Macy gave all of us marshmallows on a stick; which I'm hoping isn't dirty - so that we could make smores with the fire.

I guess we were all still in deep thought about the news since everyone was silent. I didn't want to believe it was true, but we never knew. There was a long silence between us when Josh, one of our classmates, spoke up. "So I hear we are camping out here in the forest tonight." He says, obviously trying to lighten up the mood.

This had captured everyone's attention and they seemed to be pretty interested in it and before I knew it, we all were engaged in a conversation about the camp out.
