Eleanor's POV

The air was chilly and the captivating view of the big bright moon and the shining stars dazzled me. We were all upstairs in the rooftop and everything seemed perfectly fine for once.

Leila and Cass had this amazing idea of decorating the place with christmas lights while Rosie, Lance, Aaron and Marco prepared the tables and the food. It had been a while since we had a fancy type of candle lit dinner, so this particular idea seemed like the perfect thing.

I sat on one of the white tables, drinking a glass of wine as I stared at Lance dancing with baby jack in his arms. I couldn't help but smile at the adorable sight in front of me.

Ethan's presence snapped me out of
my trance as he approached me and ushered us both towards the dance floor.

I chuckled at him and pecked his cheek, "since when are you into slow dancing?"

"Since I realized I get to dance with the prettiest girl I've ever laid eyes on," he gushed, making my heart skip a beat.

I smiled at him sincerely as we both swayed to the melodic rhythms of Santo & Johnny's Sleepwalk. My heart warmed up to the sound since this was my father's favorite song to play on his guitar back then in Italy. Oh how I miss him.

My eyes wandered around the place and I noticed Jack and Nicole dancing together, Rosie and Grayson were taking Polaroid's of everyone while Gilinsky approached Cass asking her to dance. She blushed so hard and I couldn't help but chuckle at her reaction.

Aaron was sat in the corner, drinking beer and making jokes with Roi. He prepared most of the food tonight and he played this song, I recall him telling
me one night that his father used to play it for him too.

"-El!" G snapped me back to reality, waving his hands in front of my face.

I shook my head and realized we were all in the lobby of the hotel, looking as broken as ever. Aaron was gone and he was never coming back.

"Are you okay, babe?" Ethan's soothing voice rung in my ears.

I looked at him, my eyes all glossy like glass. "No," I mumbled.

He sighed, intertwining our fingers and rubbing my thumb to calm me down.

Gilinsky gave me a solemn look as he was about to continue his speech until Nicole cut him off.

"I can't believe... he's... he's gone. Forever." She weeped, wiping her wet eyes with tissue. I welcomed her into a loving hug - all of us were in a terrible state of mind about our loss. She and Roi were taking this the worst, they were very close to him, as well as Rosie and I. He was our friend in college.

Aaron Carpenter was one of us. He was brutally killed in our own safe haven, and none of us had a clue how it happened and when, that night. It was clear that people snuck in, but - was it planned? Was it a quick scheme to scare us? Did they have something against him in specific? We will never know. But my theory is that Emily is the main suspect in this whole situation. It's obvious anyway, because who else would kill one of us, unless it being the infected. It's clearly Emily and her gang.

What's left of society is pathetic in this world. People choose to kill to survive, instead of coming together as one to help each other. He had been through so much, hell, he got shot. He didn't have to die. Why it couldn't have been me! The boy didn't deserve this at all. He had recently turned 19.
