I stood in front of house 12. And no, I  was not referring to its address. I meant it was the 12th house we'd moved to. The final house, my parents promised with similar grins plastered on both their faces.   I had rolled my eyes. Houses 2-11 had also been the 'final' houses. Still, I hoped they meant it this time. I was sick of moving.

The house was huge and old. I didn't understand how my parents could afford this since we weren't that well off but hey, I wasn't complaining.

       'Hannah.'

I mean, all our previous houses were small, just enough for three of us.

      'Hannah.'

We even had to share a bathroom and now I had one all to myself? I should be happy but..

      'Hannah!'

I spun around to face my mum. She looked tired and so did my dad who walked towards me and dumped a box of books in my arms. Rolling my eyes and sighing, I took it into the house. After a few hours of heaving box after box into the house, I dragged myself upstairs to find my room. Imagine my confusion when  there was only one room.

      I stomped back downstairs.
'Dad!'

'What, honey?'

He only called me honey when he wanted me to agree with him or when he wanted to get on my good side. I narrowed my eyes.

'Why is there only one room upstairs? I mean, it's such a large house and there's just a single room?'

My mum appeared, wiping her hands on her worn out trousers. She sighed.

'What is it?' She asked.

Rolling my eyes, I repeated my earlier question. Her and my dad shared a look which only annoyed me.

'Honey, didn't you notice there's a master bedroom downstairs?'

My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Obviously I hadn't noticed. But then again, what kind of house had just one room upstairs yet the master bedroom downstairs? They led me to the room which was just down the hall past where the kitchen was.

'So the room upstairs is mine?' I had to make sure.

'Yes, honey'

'But why the hell is the master bedroom downstairs?'

They both sighed simultaneously and I fought the urge to tear my hair out.

'We don't know, honey. But doesn't this make you happy? You're always going on and on about how much you need your privacy.'

I scowled at my dad.

'It's not such a bad thing, is it?' This was my mum. I took a deep breath and realized It wasn't that big of a deal. At least my room would be just as large as the master bedroom.

'No, it's not. I guess I'll go to bed now. Goodnight guys.'

'Goodnight, Rose'

'Night, honey'

I could feel their stares as I walked back through the hall and made my way upstairs. Maybe I was overreacting, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right.

-----

I was right and I was happy. My room was huge. So huge I could do multiple somersaults. Not that I would but that's by the way. I frowned when I realized all my moving boxes were there already. One of my parents must have brought them up for me.

I walked slowly around the room, taking my time to inspect every inch of the walls and floor. I'd never had a room so big. I was somewhat uneasy about being alone upstairs but I quickly dismissed the thought. I mean, huge room!

There was a large bed (oh, bliss), a walk in closet which was pretty huge but by now, I've established that everything about and in this house is huge. Then there was a sturdy looking chest of wardrobes right by the window. Swiftly, I walked to it. I'd always longed for an actual view of other houses and stuff and now I had it. I couldn't be more happy.

I was met by a burst of fresh air as I stuck my head outside. Propping my chin on my palm, I studied the rows of houses opposite mine. I let out a tiny breath of joy and was retreating back inside when out of the corner of my eye, I saw something move in the windows of one of the houses.

My heart rate increased slightly as I squinted to get a better look. I was concentrating so hard I fell over when a face appeared between the blinds of the window.

I hope you liked the first chapter as this is my first serious book on Wattpad. I'd really appreciate votes and comments. Oh and keep reading!
