I get home and walk into the house to find my little brother, billy, watching tv. He doesn't pay attention to me walking in and just focuses on the cartoons on the screen. He is 8 but is not that mature for his age.

I go up stairs and start to get ready for my date. It's a Friday night and it's almost been a year for me and Ayden. He promised he would take me out somewhere. Somewhere not to fancy. Since he knows I'm not very classy and elegant.

I brush my hair and since its naturally wavy it looks like I loosely curled it. I add just a little bit of mascara and then start to pick out an outfit. After a while of looking at everything I own I decide to wear a nice blue shirt and jeans.

"Katie!!! The door is for you!!" My brother yells from down stairs.

I slip on my boots real quick and then run down stairs. Opening the door I see Ayden wearing a nice button up shirt. I smile and hug him. As I hug him he takes a deep breath and hugs me just a little tighter. Once he lets go I shut the door to the house.
"Does your dad know about this date" Ayden asks looking over his shoulder like he's afraid to get caught.

"Mom and I decided not to tell him...but moms totally fine with this so let's go"

Ayden looks hesitant but then takes my hand and leads me to his truck. He opens the door for me and I slide in as he goes around to get into the drivers seat.

"Where are we going" I ask once he's in the truck.

"Haven't you Hurd of surprises" he says starting the engine then rolling out of the drive way.

I put my legs up on the dash board and look out the window. There's a field of tall grass that blows and sways in the wind. Purple and yellow blossoms brighten the field. Past the field is a forest of trees. The trees droop like a wilted flower and there leaves tumble on the ground. The dead trees give the field of flowers a shadowy look. The forest it's self doesn't look that scary or dark. It just looks bare and alone.

The truck turns into the field and I laugh. How could I have not known he would take me here. As I looked at its beauty I should have noticed how perfect it would be for a date.

Ayden helps me out of the truck and pulls out a blanket. Grabbing my hand he leads me out into the field. We are almost in the middle of it all when he sets down the blanket and sits down.

"So I thought we could watch the sunset tonight" he says as I sit down next to him.

"My curfew is 10 so ya I would love to watch the sunset."

Ayden looks at me. He doesn't lean in for a kiss like a normal guy. He just looks at me. Looks at my eyes like its the only thing he can see. I smile and so does he.

"Katie we've been friends forever" Ayden says still looking at me. "I'm glad we are more than that now"

I feel my cheeks get hot and I know that I'm blushing. I hate blushing.

"Katie. I...I want you to know...I think I love you" Ayden says.

I'm left speechless. All I can do is look into his eyes. My face is red but my eyes show I'm shocked. Ayden and I have been friends since we where kids and just about a year ago he asked me out. For a year I've wanted to say this but didn't wanna scare him away and now he finally said it first.

"I love you to Ayden" I say.

This time he does lean in and I close my eyes and let our lips meet. Ayden sets his hand on my hip and the other hand that's keeping him up as he's leaning on the blanket he sets on my hand that's also keeping me up and balanced.

Ayden lays me back on the blanket and now both hands stay on my waist as he hovers over me. He continues to kiss me and I can't help but say I love you again.

"I love you to" he whispers in my ear.

Ayden then raps me in his arms as he is laying down and I set my head on his chest. He rubs my back and I close my eyes as it soothes me.

I feel a hand tap my shoulder and I open my eyes. I see that I'm still on Ayden's chest and I sigh. I fell asleep. I sit up and so does he. Ayden smiles and then points behind me. As I turn around I see the sunset.

"What time is it" I ask not taking my eyes off the sunset.

"Almost 9:30"

"We should get back. Mom doesn't like me showing up right at curfew." I say with a saddened look. I don't want to leave his arms or the warmth they bring.

After a few minutes of just sitting close to each other we finally decide to grab the blanket, get up, and go back.
