"Clove, get up. You should be ready. It's your first day of training"
"Mmm.. Yes mom. I'm coming".
I go downstairs as fast as I can. I'm just too excited to train. I can't wait to show those crappy people who the next victor would be.
"Have you decided what weapon would you master?" my mother asked as she was preparing our breakfast.
"Well, I still want to master throwing knives". Yup. I really believe that throwing knives will be the skill I'd be good at. Since I killed a bird throwing a knife at it when I was five years old.
"Don't you want to practice other weapons?" she asked.
"Well, archery is my second choice." Archery's not bad. I mean I could hit a still target at one shot. I just need to practice hitting a moving target.
"Well that's good. The earlier you'd be good in those weapons, the better. You could volunteer sooner when you become 16."
After finishing breakfast, I took a quick bath then get dressed. I put a plain green shirt and black pants and boots. Then I quickly equipped my jacket with seven knives. Then, my mother came in. She asked me if she could do my hair and I agreed. She made a simple biker braid. Then off I go to school. Training center is still located at school compound.
As I walk towards my assigned building I met a bunch of boys, maybe two years older than me, at my way to the room. I pretty much ignored them until I recognize a familiar face. Cato Auburn. The son of my family's mortal enemy. It all started from our grandparents. My grandfather's twin brother and his grandmother were once tributes in the First Quarter Quell. They promised to keep each other's back until it came to the point that they were the only two remaining. His grandmother hadn't even had a second thought when she pulled the arrow hitting my grandfather right through the chest. Traitors.
I didn't recognize that they were walking towards me.
" Hey look, a cute, small girl for training. What are you going to do? Lift a needle and stab it to your victim? Hahaha." one of them teased. They all laughed like crazy potatoes like it was a big joke. All of them. Except Cato. He didn't laugh. He didn't even smile. He's just poker face and staring at me.
"Hey, Cato, what's the problem, afraid of a little girl like her?" they teased. Well he should be. And they should also.
" Come on guys, I don't want to waste my time on a kid. There's other pretty girls waiting for me" he said.
But before they leave he whispered "Nice hair, sweetheart" he said then kissed me quickly in the cheek. Though I think nobody saw it I still feel a shame. Ughh. I'll try to forget about it.
My first class was history. I hate it. It always talks about how Panem started from the destruction of place they called North America. The whole morning passed slowly. Luckily, I sat near the window. I could just stare at peaceful clouds. I enjoyed Math actually. It's not that boring. Our teacher has lots of joke so nobody would fall asleep during her class.
During lunchbreak I sat alone at a vacant table. It seems to hold ten or more persons but its alright with me. Everybody seems to look at me while I eat. I gave them a 'is there dirt on my face' look. Then the same bunch of boys walk towards my table. Only, they got those flirty girls with them following. Well, I don't care.
"Ehem, I think someone doesn't know the rules yet" a flirt blonde says.
"Yeah, I think we should teach it to her" another said.
They took my lunch away.
"Hey".
"What you gonna do huh? Little girl" They all laughed. I was holding my temper.
"Oh look. She got a knife. Are we going to be scared? Haha."
I throwed my knife aiming this flirt blonde. I almost killed her when Cato pushed her making my knife miss.
"Let's just leave her alone. Why are we wasting time with her. There are many tables around." he said.
He smiled but I just replied a nod.

CATO'POV.
I was still thinking of her. She's so adorable. She's a fighter actually. Ughh. What are you thinking Cato. Her family is your family's mortal enemy.
I went to the training room with Bella Levin. She's not my girlfriend though. She follows me like she's my pet dog.
"Good afternoon class. For the inormation of freshmen, I am Mr. Craig, your head trainor."
"As you can see, there are different weapons in this room. You are all free to use them.. but... only one rule. Do not practice with other students until I say. Understand?"
"Understand" all say in chorus.
I was wondering what weapon Clove would master. I went to the swords area near the knife throwing area.
"Hey. Following me?" I said teasingly. "Why would I?" She seriously said. "Maybe because you believe in the saying "Follow your dreams" I said winking at her. "Whatever" she mumbled.
I lifted two swords each in one hand. Then I perfectly cut four dummies into halves. I looked at Clove and saw her pretty impressed. "Beat it" i challenged. She just smirked and threw ten knives swiftly. As I look at the dummies they were hit right at the eyes, heart, and throat areas. Woah. Instant death. She's one of a kind. "How bout that?" she said smiling. I can't speak. I'm too surprised. "Oh. I see. Pretty impressed hmm?". "Who? Me? C'mon. Is that what you've got? Pitiful. I'll show you something you've never seen before. " then I led her to the spears area. I aligned three dummies then picked up the biggest and longest spear. I threw the spear full force hitting the dummies right through the chest. I looked at her smirking. She's still shocked. "Oh. I see. Pretty impressed?" I said mimicking her voice. " Whatever." She walked to the archery area and I followed. "Watch and learn" she said. She asked me to throw three apples at the same time. I did and she pulled the arrow skewing the apples into middle. I think she got the attention of the others, as well as our trainors. "Well, looks like Cato has a new opponent. Right Auburn?" Mr. Craig asked looking at me. "Well maybe. But I'll still be the best" I said. An idea came upon me. What if Clove and I become training partners? I mean, she's good with weapons I haven't mastered and vice versa. No. Ughh. Cato. Remember. She's one of your enemies now. You shouldn't. But I could have an advantage with that. Knowing her weakness. Besides she looks harmless though. I'll think about this later.
