If only I had been,
What I'd pretend,
That's what you had said,
When you left me contempt.
Yes I wasn't my own,
Yes I had put on a mask,
But to please you always,
Was a very difficult task.
I tried my very best,
To please your demanding heart,
But I knew in my soul,
That I'd failed from the start.
Whatever I did,
Was never enough for you,
Whatever I gave,
You always wanted something new.
That's why I wore that mask,
Trying to mimic who I was not,
But still you left me,
Leaving here to rot.
No, no,
Please have no regret,
Because it helped me on my fate,
My childhood dream I embraced.
After I cried my heart out,
I turned on my music,
I felt my guitar in hand,
And played something basic.
Those long metal strings,
Felt cold in my hand,
But I wasn't to complain,
Cause I had got back my friend.
My friend,
Whom I deserted for you,
My music,
Which I left for you.
The same music,
Which calmed my soul,
The same music,
Which gave me my goal.
When I play it today,
In front of my cheering fans,
I thank you in my heart,
For leaving me then.
