After the fourth period bell that signaled the end of the school day, Hannah watched as Jordon rushed out of the classroom. Hannah tried to follow, but felt a restraining arm on her shoulder. “Hold on Hannah there’s one thing I forgot to tell you about our deal.” Hannah sighed. “What is it Ange?” she said, turning impatiently to the girl. Angela smiled devilishly. “Well if you’re going to be popular, then you need to dress the part.” Hannah groaned. “Alright we’ll go after lunch.” She said, again trying to make her way to talk to her nee-chan. “Not so fast Hannah—I just thought you should know that you and I will be switching rooms.” Hannah whipped aound. “I think you’re full of—”
Angela cut her off with a wave of her hand. “Fine fine. I guess I’ll just be telling the principal”
“Do it and I swear you lose both your arms.”
Angela smiled. “That’s more like it. Now come on; I’ll go help you move your stuff. You, Angie, and Angelica can room together while I room with Jordon.” Hannah shook her head with a sigh, picking her materials up off of the floor.
Over the next three weeks, the Anges made Jordon’s life hell. They’d pull her hair, give her regular swirlies, threw bits of food at her at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, took her lunch money, and did anything you could think of to make Jordon’s life miserable. What Hannah did to her was what Jordon found the worst: she just sat there and watched it all happen. It also didn’t help that Jordon didn’t even get to see her at night anymore because she had swapped rooms with Angela.
Jordon’s life with Angela was horrible. Angela would stay up all night watching MTV and ranting about all the “bad actors that dared to show their ugly faces on tv”. Jordon tried to watch Soul Eater (Hannah had discarded her DVDs, claiming that only nerds were otakus) one night, but Angela would just talk on the phone very rudely and loudly. What would she talk about on the phone? How bad of a roommate Jordon was. How her anti-socialness cramped her style, her hair made her skin crawl, and how she made babies cry by just merely walking into the room. Jordon hated Angela with a burning passion. She wanted her old roommate back, no matter how much they had traveled apart in terms of friendship.
Hannah hated rooming with Angie and Angelica. They hated anime, hated emo people, and hated anything that Hannah liked. After a while, it got to the point where Hannah would just sit in the corner and read her manga until mealtimes rolled around. Hannah hated that she couldn’t do anything to help Jordon, but what choice did she have? Hannah could only watch from a distance as they tortured Jordon day in and day out. After watching Jordon get her glasses get snatched off her face and broken, however, Hannah had had enough.
“Alright fine. I’ll go shopping with you guys; but first I need to make a pitstop at the janitor’s closet.” Angela arched an eyebrow. “And why would you need to do that?” Hannah shook her head, raising a finger to her lips. “I was just thinking we could play a trick on LeeAnn. I don’t really want to to tell you the truth; but it will convince her that I don’t want anything to do with her.” Angela smiled, allowing Hannah to lead the way to the janitor’s closet.
Hannah walked nonchalantly to the closet door, looked around to make sure they weren’t being followed, picked the lock with her spare bobby pin, and opened the door in no time flat. Hannah lead the way into the dark room. “OK I’m going to need three cans of spray paint, feathers, and some really strong glue.” Angela, Angelica, and Angic stepped into the closet behind Hannah. “I still don’t see how we’re going to trick Jordon.” Hannah turned to the girls, smiling wickedly. “See I was thinking we spray paint her room. She’ll come running out angrily, then we open fire with the glue. Then we send feather after feather after Jordon. And voila; we have ourselves a gigantic chicken.”
Angic laughed. “I never thought I’d say this, but you’re pretty cool Hannah.”
Angela and Angelica nodded in agreement, and Hannah smiled again. “OK the spray paint is in the back along with the glue.” Angela decided to get the glue, and Angie and Angelica worked together to look for the feathers. “I’ll get the spray paint from the art room.” Hannah announced, walking out the door.
Angela smiled. “You know something? You’re pretty cool even if you’re emo.”
Hannah smiled, her hand on the doorknob. “Why thank you Ange. But next time you blackmail someone, make sure you can outwit them.” And with that, Hannah stepped back and shut the door to the closet, locking the girls inside.
“Hey! You can’t just lock us in here! Hannah I swear if you don’t let us out right now, I’m going to tell—”
“Who are you gonna tell? The broomstick? The mop possibly? Don’t worry you won’t be there for long. Lunch is going to be over in about ten minutes. Which is exactly enough time for me and Jordon to get out of here unnoticed. Bye Angela!”
And with that, Hannah turned and dashed upstairs to Jordon’s dorm room. Oh I’ve got a lot of explaining to do. She thought to herself, knocking softly on Jordon’s door.
