Hannah stepped into the room—and gasped. Jordon stood in front of the mirror, a knife in hand. “My foster father was right. I’m pathetic. Weak, stupid, and pathetic. Everyone hates me.” She whispered, shaking her head. “What’s the point in living when the only person who you trusted has come to hate your guts?” Silence. “Exactly. There is none!” Jordon yelled raising the knife to her stomach.
“NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!”
The world seemed to be going in slow-motion as Hannah rushed up behind her sister and slapped the knife from her hands. Jordon looked up startled to see her sister glaring down on her. “WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU DOING?!” she shrieked. Jordon backed up at her sister, a mixture of sadness and anger in her eyes. “Why would you care? After all you hate me.” she growled, shaking her head. Hannah grabbed Jordon by the shoulders and shook her roughly. “Listen here Jordon and listen good—” Jordon’s eyes flashed. “NO! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! WHY SHOULD I LISTEN TO YOU? I TRUSTED YOU AND YOU BACKSTABBED ME! I HATE YOU!”
Hannah flinched as the words hit her like a punch in the gut. “WELL IF I HATED YOU DO YOU THINK I WOULD HAVE SLAPPED THAT KNIFE FROM YOUR HANDS?! LOOK ANGE MADE ME DO IT OK?!”
Jordon rolled her eyes. “Oh suuurreee blame it all on Angela. You just tried to frame someone. I’m not surprise frankly. BECAUSE YOU’RE A FILTHY. ROTTEN. LIAR!”
The anger left Hannah in all of two seconds. Of course she’s angry with me. I was her best friend, and I left her alone. Hannah thought to herself with a sigh. “I had to bully you—to keep you safe. Jordon—Angela, Angelica, and Angie know your secret.” Jordon crossed her arms in front of her chest. Hannah sighed, sitting on the edge of the tub and began to explain everything.
Jordon sighed. “I don’t care Hannah. Let her tell the principal. Thanks, but no thanks. I’m done running. Get away from me, because I don’t want you to see me.” Jordon whispered, reaching for the knife at her feet. Hannah grabbed her sister by the collar, forcing her sister to look up at her. “You know you really piss me off.” She growled through clenched teeth. “So what that you only have one friend? Maybe—Maybe this one friend cares about you more than any other friend ever could. Maybe I love you and don’t want anything to happen to you.” The girls stood in silence for a few seconds. Hannah sighed, dropping Jordon. “So what do you say? Is it still me and you against the world?” she whispered. In response to her question, Jordon collapsed in Hannah’s arms shaking violently and sobbing. Hannah hugged her around the waist, rubbing her back soothingly.
“So what are we going to do about Ange?” Jordon asked as soon as she had consumed herself. Hannah smiled at her. “I locked them in the closet. Now come on. We have to get out of here.” Suddenly, there was a pounding at the dorm door. “Jordon Anderson we know you’re in there!” a male voice called out. Hannah’s heart skipped a beat. “Oh crap the cops!” Hannah jumped up from the tub and grabbed Jordon’s knapsack. More pounding at the door. “Open up Jordon! We know you’re there.” Angela’s sickeningly sweet voice came from behind the door.
Hannah turned to throw Jordon her knapsack, but her sister was on the floor, wrapped in a ball. Hannah groaned. “Come on Jordon the cops are here.” Jordon shook her head. “What’s the point? We can’t get out. The door’s blocked by cops.”
“If you girls don’t come out now, we’re coming in. 5. . .”
Hannah’s heart skipped another beat. “Come on Jordon we have to get out!”
“4. . .”
Jordon didn’t move.
“3. . .”
Hannah groaned, rushed to the window and tried to push it open, but nothing happened.
“2. . .”
Just as Hannah thought Jordon had given up hope, she was at her side in less than a heartbeat.
“1! Ok we’re coming in!”
Just as the door was knocked down, the window opened. “Hey!” the cop called to them.
Jordon cried out as Hannah grabbed her hand. “Alright don’t try anything. You girls are under arrest.” The cop shouted glaring at Hannah and Jordon. The cop that appeared to be the leader was white skinned, chubby, and had short brown hair. Hannah didn’t pay much attention to the cops behind him.
Suddenly an idea flashed into Hannah’s head. “One more move and I push her!” Hannah threatened, holding her sister towards the window. The officer froze. “Don’t even think about it. You’re coming with us too girly.” Hannah smiled. “I don’t think so. I think I’ll just be taking Jordon with me now.” Hannah turned to Angela. “You’re next Ange.” She said, and with that, Hannah leaped through the window, clutching Jordon to her chest protectively. Don’t worry nee-chan. I’ll never let you go again.
Jordon’s heart beat rapidly as the ground rushed towards her. To her surprise, she didn’t feel the need to scream; she somehow knew Hannah wouldn’t let anything happen to her. Jordon and Hannah hit shrug hard, Hannah had somehow managed to twist in the air so that Jordon ended up landing on top of Hannah. Hannah groaned. “Are you alright Jordon-chan?” she whispered, sitting up. Luckily, they had managed to land in the bushes, so the impact wasn’t as large. Jordon shook her head with a sigh. “I’m sitting on top of your chest, and you’re asking me if I’m alright.” Hannah smiled sheepishly.
The girls sat in silence for a few seconds catching their breath. Finally Jordon broke the silence. “Well I guess this is goodbye.” She whispered, trying to hide how much she would miss her new friend. Hannah shook her head. “No; I’m coming with you.” Jordon arched an eyebrow in surprise. “Well that’s not a very good idea; they’re after me moreso than they are you, so at least if you get caught, the only thing they’d do is tell you off. If you come with me, you’d get in some serious trouble. I’m on the run if you haven’t noticed.” Hannah smiled. “I don’t care; I did not just jump out of a window to leave you hanging.” Jordon smiled, crawling off of her sister’s chest and lifting her off the ground. “You’re not going to listen to me are you?” Hannah shook her head, wiping the dirt off of her clothes. “Hey what made you jump off the floor so quickly anyway?”
Before Jordon could answer, the girls heard a shout behind them. “Hey! Stop right there!”
Jordon smiled. “I did it because I knew they’d be after you too. Hey you know what this means right? It’s just you and me.”
Hannah nodded, throwing Jordon’s knapsack over her back. “Yup. You and me against the world.”
And with that, the two friends grasped hands and ran off, the sound of the four officers’ footsteps and hurried voices behind them.
