CHAPTER NINE

His Agony

It had been three days since the second attempt of ending her life had happened.

The coastguards along with Jerry and ACSC's rescue team had arrived on the crime scene just a few seconds before the explosion.

The armed men had been caught. The rescuers had searched for bodies on the water and they did find Raine's body and his bodyguard's.

The two had been brought to Reoul Medical Center through a helicopter.

Raine had not gotten any wound. She still had pulse when the divers had found them. But no matter how hard they had tried reviving her consciousness they weren't successful.

Raine was already six weeks pregnant when the unfaithful incident happened.

Raine was still under the intensive care unit, unconscious. She didn't lose the baby but then she was still not waking up and such was tormenting Jerry so much. He had never left her side since then.

Serena's father was the mastermind of all the attempts to kill her. He had resorted to such because he wanted Serena to be happy. He felt that Raine was hindering his daughter's happiness because Anthony was still crazy in love with her. He thought that the only way to remedy the situation was to get rid of the cause.

Sheryl and Chester had paid a visit as soon as Raine's doctor had approved of visitation at her third day in the ICU. Vital signs were all back to normal and yet Raine was still not waking up.

"I did call her that day to tell her the news about our wedding and our baby," Sheryl had narrated as she cried. She talked to Raine, "Raine, wake up. My wedding would be two days from now. You did promise to come."

"She's now six weeks pregnant with our baby." Jerry informed them.

Chester asked. "Is the baby okay?"

"Yes, but then she is still not waking up."

"She'll soon wake up, I'm sure of that," Sheryl had declared with so much conviction.

"Know what, Sheryl? I had suspected you to be behind the bombing but she had kept on telling me you couldn't possibly do such to her."

"You do have a reason to suspect me. I really hadn't been good at accepting the fact that you belong to her. But then Raine has been so considerate with me. She's a one of a kind friend, Jerry."

Jerry answered, "I know that. She's also a one of a kind wife as well."

Serena paid a visit too.

She apologized to Jerry. "I'm really sorry for everything, Jerry. It's because of me that Dad had resorted in killing her."

Jerry told Serena, "It's not your fault, Serena. Anthony should be blamed for everything. If he had just been good to you, nothing of these could have happened. I really had never minded about his affection towards my wife. But it's not right for him to treat you unkindly. Know what? I had suspected you to be behind everything."

"You have all the reason to suspect me."

"But then Raine kept on telling me that you would never ever resort to taking one's life just for your own happiness."

"We might not be the best of friends but we're really close back at our high school days."

Jerry even told Serena, "She did throw the flowers Anthony had sent her for Valentine's at her waste bin."
