              When we finally arrived in London I drove around until I found a hotel within about a twenty minute walk from where I remembered the club was. I didn’t want be too close or we would be too easy to find. Not that I was aware that anyone was looking for us but it always paid to be cautious.

When the car came to a stop Jamie glanced at the clock on the dashboard;

“Merry Christmas,”

I checked the time in surprise and grinned, “Merry Christmas to you to,” my voice came out softly but to me still sounded loud in the quiet car, I let his lips brush softly against mine for a moment before we got out sending heat rushing through my body.

              The hotel I had chosen was nice and classy; if anyone did discover where we were staying I wanted to keep up my reputation. I hoped that if I happened to see anyone that I knew they would assume that I was still the same person that I was then; it’s often easier to get information if the person you are talking to believes that you might rip their head of at any moment.

              When we entered the main reception area the immaculately dressed man waiting at the desk looked at us doubtfully, although his expression soon changed when I pulled out one of my debit cards and stared into his eyes.

              As soon as we entered our room Jamie collapsed onto the bed and groaned;

“Aww why does travelling make me so tired?”

I shrugged, “I don’t know but it is after midnight and we have had quite a busy day.”

              I was wide awake; since I had been matching his sleep schedule the past few days I had slept a lot more than usual leaving me restless. Aside from that there was also the constant stream of noise that had hit me since entering the city. Without even concentrating I could hear the many sounds from the hotel and then the millions of noises of the city around us.

              Walking over to the window I slid it open a crack and ran my nose along the opening. The cool winter air blew in carrying with it the countless scents of the area. I was sure that I could faintly detect the scents of several vampires amongst the humans but none were close enough to concern me for the night. Even in the unlikely event that one did come to pay us a visit I was fairly certain that I could deal with it; I was probably older than most of them and therefore more powerful. That meant that they should automatically respect or at least not bother me, and if they didn’t then I should be able to defeat them if it came down to a fight.

              It was not a coincidence that many vampires didn’t live to be very ancient, even though we are supposedly immortal. Once a couple of centuries have passed boredom often sets in, leading them to intentionally begin to seek out dangerous situations just to keep themselves amused. That along with the various fights with other vampires and the occasional successful hunter leads to quite a few being killed before they reach any significant age. I think that I have probably only survived so long because at first I was with William, and we always protected one another… until the one time when I failed… and then since then it was probably just pure chance. Especially during my more reckless periods.

              I realized that I had been standing by the window deep in thought for a long time, Jamie had fallen asleep where he was so I decided to leave him there and just pulled the covers over him to he didn’t wake up cold. It could be quite troublesome travelling with humans I thought, they have so many needs that needed attending to. It seemed like such a waste to sleep through the entire night for a start, and then there was all the meal breaks needed…

              To occupy myself I quietly carried my suitcase into the big ensuite bathroom so as not to wake him and began sorting through my clothes. It had occurred to me that I had absolutely nothing to wear if I was to be going to the club tomorrow. I needed to blend in so that I didn’t attract unnecessary attention and to do that I would need to dress like the rest of the clientele.  I sighed; it would be terrible trying to find somewhere to buy clothes on Christmas day. Unless…

              I could only be gone for a short time; Jamie would never even know that I was missing. It would save the hassle of trying to do it tomorrow…

              My mind made up I quietly crept back into the main bedroom and used the hotel stationary to write a quick note in my elegant scrawl; just in case he happened to wake up- I didn’t want him to freak out if he found me missing. It simply said;

 Gone to get some clothes,

Be back soon,

STAY here!

Don’t worry,

Love Jade

              I hesitated when I realized how I had signed it at the end, but then I placed it on the desk anyway. People sign things like that all the time, it’s not like it means anything. Especially to a guy, females are usually the ones who sit there trying to find meaning in every little word. Anyway, I thought, it’s not like he’s going to read it anyhow; I’ll be back long before he wakes up.

              With that thought I went back to the window and slid it as far open as it would go. Sure I could leave the normal way, and go down in the lift and out reception but my way was faster, and more fun I admitted to myself.

              When I was outside, my fingers easily gripping the tiny imperfections in the bricks that I clung to I slid the window back down so that it was almost closed. I didn’t want Jamie to get cold and wake up, but I needed to get back in later. Then instead of going down I went up, scaling the building until I reached the roof. Standing on the gently sloping surface I looked around and impatiently brushed away the hair that the freezing wind had whipped into my face.

              There appeared to be shops to the east of my current position, but the next building was quite a distance from the one I was on. Still, I was confident that I could make it if I jumped. Going the opposite edge of the roof I ran back across the small distance to allow myself to build up some speed before launching myself into midair when my toes reached the very edge of the stone. The next building was lower than the first so I fell for a few seconds before my feet hit a solid surface again. Straightening from my crouched position in one smooth motion I continued running before once again leaping into the air. Right, I thought, let’s go do some shopping.
