Chapter 21: Keep Calm and Tell the Future

“Char, stay calm. Everything will be fine. We are going to find your phone and your secret will stay safe.” Said Chase’s soothing voice, but now nothing could soothe the panic that was raging inside of me like ocean waves.

“Calm?! How the hell do I stay fucking calm?! My stupid Hannah Montana life is about to explode in my face. And to top it all off, my favourite person got voted off of America’s Next Top Model!” I yelled throwing my hands around. I then huffed and sat down beneath the tree with my head in my palm.

“Okay, now I’m confused. What are you more upset about? Your phone or ANTM?” Asked Chase as he sat down next to me, genuine curiosity on his face.

“Both!” I said as I put my head between my knees. Ugh, my life is more complicated than an geometry problem. My phone is stolen and the person probably already hacked into my phone and is most likely fangirling they found the socially awkward girl that “The Anon” belongs too. Just as I was about to burst into tears, Chase’s hand rubbed circles into my back.

“Wait Char, doesn’t your phone have that app that can track your phone?” asked Chase as he pulled me up to my feet. My eyes widened at the thought. I jumped up and hugged Chase.

“Chase! You genius! My laptop is in your car. Let’s get some wifi and food and go on the search for my phone!” I said as I began to drag him back to the parking lot. Within minutes, the two of us were outside a local coffee shop with me nibbling on a muffin while typing my phone number in the app website. As I pressed enter, my mouse swirled and soon a map showed up with a red dot over a house. From further clicking on the red dot an address popped up. Surprisingly, the house was close by.

“Chase, I got the house number. Let’s go get my phone.” I said as I wrote down the house address on a napkin and closed my laptop.

“Are you sure this is the right house, Char?” asked Chase he leaned towards my window to get a better look of the house. I looked down at the address written on the napkin and the number that was peeling from the mailbox.

“Yup. It’s the right one. Let’s go.” I said as I opened my door and got onto the pavement. Chase walked around the car and joined me. As we walked up to the door there were signs strewn over the lawn reading “free readings!” and “I read crystal balls!”. Chase and I reached the porch and as I was about to knock on the door it swung open. A middle-aged, petite woman opened the door. She was decked in gold dangling jewelry and a purple head wrap.

“I was waiting for you guys!” she said as she pulled me inside, as I pulled Chase with me. Closing the door behind her she walked past her antique looking living room and into a corridor which must have lead to the kitchen and dining room. I looked at Chase, his eyebrows furrowed and he bit his lips. The woman came back through the hallway holding a rectangular object in her hand. When she came closer I realized it was my phone.

“Oh, wow. Thank you! But if you don’t mind me asking, how did you know this was my phone or I would be coming?” I asked cautiously, doubting if I really wanted to know the answer.

“Oh I had a vision dear. I thought I had forgot my phone under the tree in the park, but once I got home I had a vision for you two looking the phone. My vision came a little late. I blame it on my growing old.” She chuckled and went back into the kitchen. As soon as the lady was out of sight, Chase turned to me.

“Vision? As in like “That’s so Raven” psychic thingy?!” asked Chase incredulously. I nodded to him, thinking on the exact same lines.

“I think this is our cue to leave. Let’s go, Chase.” I said as I grabbed Chase’s hand and walked to the door. But before we could leabe, the lady came back.
