>>> CHAPTER 6 >>>

-------------------------------------

As the days go by your health is slowly improving. Bane and the citizens have been working to finish building a palace. For some days you watched them, resting in the shadows. The project has been ongoing for months, and is now finally done.

Bored you decided it was time for a little stroll. With a frown demanding to be left alone. Nobody dared object as you slowly started walking.

Anger flowing in each stride Ares quickly walks towards Bane. "Where is she?"

Bane takes one step back, "She taking a walk in the forest. It is perfectly safe".

Infuriated Ares roars at Bane 'You let her do what?', staring at the Centaur with such anger, he quickly steps back. 'Where is she now?'

Raising his hand, Bane hastily answers 'Would never try and stop Dragonclaw, not even when she is injured. She walked towards the lake'.

With shrewd up eyes Ares stares at Bane, and then he growls 'She better be unharmed, or I will tear you apart'. Running towards the door, he shouts 'The new palace is finished. Move her belongings', and then he is gone.

With a broad grin on his face, Bane speaks 'Yes General, Sir. Right away, Sir'. Laughing he stutters 'Think you can order Dragonclaw around? Get ready for a HUGE surprise, oh feared one'.

Racing towards the lake, Ares feels his heart quiver with fear. You are alone, and unprotected. Cursing the Centaur, he runs faster. Reaching the lakeside, he finds you standing, leaning against a tree. When he reaches out to touch your shoulder, you turn around with such speed, it startles him. Surprised he feels a sharp blade pressed against his throat. Staring at you, eyes filled with a mixture of admiration and anger, he roars 'Why are you not in bed resting? Where are your guards? Go back right now, or I will make you!'.

Sheathing your knife, you look into his angry eyes, brow risen, and answer 'You and what army?'

Amazed dark eyes stare back at you, never has anyone refused to obey him. Surprised he feels his anger vanish into thin air. With a strange smile he speaks 'My anger does not scare you? Who are you? Why have we never met before?' With a tense expression in his dark eyes, he continues 'It is dangerous for you to be alone'.

With a tired expression in your eyes, you answer 'So many questions'. With a sigh you continue 'I understand why you are angry, but it does not scare me. You know my name, and as to why we have never met, I do not know. Answering your last question is easy. I am always alone, even when surrounded by people. Solitude and danger does not scare me, I can take care of myself'. Sudden faintness makes you reel, and piercing pain makes you gasp in agony. Darkness consumes your soul as you suddenly pass out.

Reaching out Ares quickly takes you into his arms. Seriously worried he stares at your pale face. Sitting down, he gently holds you closer. Hand shaking he caress your cheek, calling your name over and over.

Istaq is hysterical with worry, shrieking he wraps his body around your neck, while hissing at Ares.

"I do not know why she passed out", Ares answers. "She was doing fine seconds ago".

Holding you closer, he whispers "She will be fine, she fainted. Walking around like this was too much". Closing his eyes, he desperately waits.

After several minutes you wake, with a curse. Your eyes lock with his. The anxiety in his eyes, warms your heart. 'How much did Bane give me?', you gasp. Seeing Ares does not understand, you elaborate 'How much of each herb did he give me, while I was unconscious?'

Voice coarse with worry, Ares answers '3 decigram nightshade, 2 decigram deadly nightshade, 4 decigram hogweed and 1 decigram laburnum. Was that wrong?'.

With a stifled curse you answer 'Not if he wanted to kill a horse. No wonder I feel so sick.'. Looking at Istaq you whisper 'Can you find me some Ericaceae?" Taking off Istaq searches for the plant you mentioned.

Quickly finding it, he returns and places the red-flowered plant in your lap. Staring at the innocent looking plant you mutter 'This is going to hurt'. Opening your mouth you bite off the flowers, and grind them between your teeth, before Ares can stop you. The poison takes effect seconds after. Agonizing pain torments your body and soul, but you do not scream.

Worried dark eyes stare deep into yours. The soul crushing pain he finds there, draws tears to his eyes. Cursing Bane over and over he tenderly rocks you in his arms. Overwhelmed with emotions he brushes his lips across your forehead and whispers soothing words.

Hours later, he finally feels you body relaxing. Worried he looks at you. Sending him a tired smile you whisper 'You are truly a merciful angel'. Raising your hand you gently caress his cheek. Exhausted you close your eyes.

Powerful emotions flow through his heart and soul as Ares holds you silently in his arms. Feeling the warmth of your resting body in his arms, his soul soars with both happiness and worry. Never has anyone shown him such unconditional trust before. Your natural and honest behavior has touched him deeply, and awoken a tender side, he did not know existed.
Feeling his own body shiver, he silently holds you, not saying a single word. Gentle fingers caress your golden hair. With a tender smile, he wonders what he has done to deserve finding you. Total peace within his very being. No temper flaring out of control.
