Today was Karen Johnson's 26th birthday. Now you may ask: who was Karen Johnson and why was she such an important person in our story? Miss Johnson was not only a honor student, a graduate from a prestigious university, but as well, a healthy young woman with a stable job and many friends. She was what you'd call, a "golden girl". Happy and satisfied with her life.
Our heroine was in the supermarket. She had to buy things for her birthday party. She had been planning this for a long time. All of her birthdays were special to her - she got to spend time with her friends and family.
"Yeah . . . Okay . . . Suzie, I'll call you later, I have to finish my grocery shopping. Bye!" , she hung up her phone with a smile and continued humming to herself and strolling with her shopping cart, full of groceries.
She glanced quickly at the list. Milk. She had forgotten it. Little did she know that when she would go get it, her life would change in the matter of seconds.
Scanning the dairy products, she quickly found the milk she always used for her signature cake. Until something caught her eye. A milk carton with an amber alert on it. They still made these?
What Karen couldn't believe was the photo she had seen on the milk carton. The little girl on the photo, called Kristen Stewart - she strongly resembled Karen's younger self. The face, the eye shape, lips, nose, even her jug ears. She raised an eyebrow. It all seemed way too suspicious for her. She had to investigate.
Karen picked up the carton of milk, checking it out. And what she saw on the back of it, petrified her. An age progression. It had been written below that this was what the child was supposed to look like as adult.
Karen couldn't close her mouth from shock. Was that . . . Her? It couldn't be. Her heartbeat sped up. She felt like she couldn't breathe. No. That was not possible. Was this a sick joke?
She felt people staring at her. Were they laughing? Why were they laughing? There was nothing funny about a young adult being close to having a panic attack in a supermarket.
Sweat dropped from her face. Or was it tears? She couldn't tell. She felt as if she had gone numb. The resemblance between her and the woman in the amber alert photos was too big not to be noticed. She felt like screaming, but she knew she would attract the attention to herself even more and didn't dare to make a sound.
And it clicked. She actually was the woman in the photos. She was Kristen Stewart.
