The faint thump on my door shattered my concentration on my book. I zoomed through each chamber of the apartment once more, certifying that I haven't forgotten several of my possessions. I glanced at the bed, the closet and bay window that wasn't mine to keep anymore.

Today the whole journey to the wonderful city finishes. I couldn't forbid myself from missing this whole city. It was amusing while it lasted. I heaved on my suitcase till I pulled to a stop again. On the desk lies two parts of the photo booth picture that Francis and I snapped when we were getting to know each other. I didn't happen to know what is was doing here.

"Sab, it's time to go," I hear Avery echo outside the wooden barrier.

"Just a second," I call back.

Without thinking I stuff the cardboard in my shoulder bag and rocket out the door.

I squeeze my earplugs tightly against my ears and turned up the volume. We had approximately thirty minutes before we boarded on the plane back to Michigan. I scroll through my IPhone's saved photos and rolled my eyes.
Everything inside was pictures of me and Francis. This would take a year to probably delete. Meg must've noticed me viewing it and seized my phone out of my hand.

"Hey!" I exclaim, struggling to retrieve my device.

"I'm not giving this back till we get on that plane." She said, pulling the strands of the earphones and wrapping them around my phone as if it's shield against something.

Avery meanwhile was still texting Oliver rapidly as if her life depended on it. I felt somehow responsible for Ave's sadness. Indeed she was going to miss him.

"I'm sorry," I blurt out, gathering Ave's attention.

She looked at me in concern, "Don't blame this on you Sab. We're here for you and your dad anytime, anywhere."

I grinned and an announcement comes over the loudspeaker, gathering the people to board for the next plane. No more turning back.

Goodbye New York.
