Part 2- How Long?

I’ve been ‘nonexistent’ for 2 and a half years now and lately, I’ve wondered how long. How long must I spend everyday alone in my house, under ‘Witness Protection’? The only precaution I never took was a name change, which I refused to do.

My new house was small. 1 bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchen, a living room, and the attic which was filled with all of my childhood belongings. I knew they moved me out of the house because my old home, where I lived for most of my life, was now monitored by press, but my new house was more like a prison to me.

I only ever saw Mom and Gemma, and those times were rare and short. The longest conversations I ever had were with Harry and the boys over Skype. Harry didn’t really want to at first, just in case it was tracked back to me, but I needed communication.

“How are you, Sky?” Harry asked, as we talked to our screens. “Lonely…” I sighed, “No one ever come around, and you’re always with the boys…” I noticed four figures look back at the screen and I added, “No offence…” They came over, and Harry sighed, “I know it’s hard, but it’ll get better. I’m coming home in a few months, and I’ll come see you.” “But that forever away…” I pouted, “I’m lonely now…” All five boys frowned, and eventually Zayn spoke up, “It’ll pass by quicker than you think.” “And Harry’s right.” Liam said, “Fame does change things. You’ll be forever be known as Harry Style’s twin sister, and people will send you hate. I’ve seen stuff like that in my own family, and the rest of the boys here will agree.” They nodded, and I sighed, “Sometimes, I think I’d rather get hate, than spend one more day in complete solitude.”

I sighed again, and placed my hand on my screen, as the boys did the same on Harry’s. “I miss you all.” I said. “We miss you too…” They said, as they each removed their hands.

The last ones was Harry’s but slowly it moved too. I moved mine, and curled into my bed, placing the laptop beside me. “It must be late…” Harry said, and I nodded, “Not that it matters… I don’t need to sleep.” “Yes, you do.” Louis and Harry said, almost simultaneously. I giggled, and Niall said, “We’ll call you tomorrow, OK?” I nodded, “I’ll be here…”

Zayn, Liam and Niall said their farewells, and departed from view. Louis shifted his weight on the bed, “Did you get anything interesting in the mail?” I laughed, “Apposed to all the usual junk mail, no.” “Hmm…” he said, and Harry looked at him the same way I did. “Why?” I asked, and Louis smiled, “It’ll be in the mail tomorrow. See you tomorrow, Love…” “Okay…?” I said, still confused as Louis left the screen. Harry shifted his laptop, and I raised the eyebrow that wasn‘t squished in my pillow, “Any idea what that was about?” He shook his head, “Not a clue. Anyway, you need your sleep. We‘ll message you around 6 your time, alright?” I nodded, “Ok… Love you, Haz…” “Love you too, Sky…” he replied, and discontinued the call, amongst similar calls from the boys.

I shut my laptop, and rested in on my nightstand, before shutting off my lamp which lit up my small bedroom. I closed my eyes, and started to dream of something I always took for granted.

Freedom.
