Chapter Eight: Just A Bug

Glancing around the room, I could see nothing but my own breath in front of me. She was being a recluse, hiding from my sight. Abby, like myself, needed to hide. I wondered what I could turn into, a roach perhaps. I could hear the pounding of footsteps behind me, coming closer. I envisioned a cockroach, brown with long antennae and bristles on the legs. I could feel my skin moving to match the form. When I was done, I quickly scurried into a corner. The door that was behind me burst open, and men in black suits flooded the opening of the room. They searched around. Another cockroach looked at me then continued on its way. I tried to keep moving, but stop on my way. I had seen the the other roaches do the same. I needed to blend in. Neither Abby nor I would be able to fend off our attackers alone. Not this many.
The men’s stern mien gave me reason to believe that our running away from the facility was not an action of impunity. They had endowed us with these abilities, and we were going to use our new prodigy-like skills to escape from the penal place they kept us.
After searching the room for us, they left and I slowly saw Abby come back into view. She had some papers. I could tell they were the papers of why they chose us. She clasped them tightly. I changed back. The others were waiting for us. We sent them off as distractions. I took Abby’s hand and we set off, invisible. We had to be quick. She could only do this for so long, but stealth was pertinent. If we were caught, we would have done everything to no avail. I could see why Abby developed invisibility. She was good at being sneaky. It suited her predominant features.
We ran to the meeting point, we hadn’t triggered any alarms, and we went unseen. The same could not be said for the others. Skye was freezing time and moving to dodge attacks, basically jumping from one place to another within her own time loops. Paige was making the guards clothing turn into tutus and snakes, it was hilarious to watch. Emily was, as she in renown for, beating people up. They were all fighting together. We joined them, Abby letting go of my hand. I turned myself into a panther, and ran through the group of guards. They shot at me and I put them down.
“Yui!” Skye yelled at me, “Don’t touch the ground!” I cooperated. She could see parts of the future, and I trusted her judgement. I jumped on the guards until they were all on the floor. I looked at Skye, she nodded, saying it was fine now. We ran through the doors while the guards were down. We all ran. I shapeshifted myself to have peregrine falcon wings. Grabbing my friends, we flew off. When we were out of sight, I landed and set everyone down. Abby opened the files. After that, we never stopped running. We probably never would.
