I couldn't believe it.
I'm supposed to be bonded to a thousand year old hybrid whom I haven't even spoken to. Well, not that I remember anyway. I wish I knew what he was like back then, ya know, why I fell in love with him. There must have been a reason...
"You can't believe him, Grace! He's just setting you up! You're probably just gonna keep Klaus occupied until Elijah can kill him." Damon says as he paces the parlor.
I shake my head in disagreement. "You don't know Elijah like I do. He wouldn't tell me something if it weren't true."
"You know what your problem is? You trust people too easily!" He looks to Stefan, "Tell her, you know I'm right."
Stefan stares at me a moment before responding. "I'm afraid I can't do that, brother. I believe her and if she thinks Elijah is telling the truth, so do I." That's Stefan for you, he'd always had faith in me. Damon, on the other hand, not so much. As a matter of fact, he had been yelling at me for over an hour. He didn't believe anyone but then again, he did have some major trust issues...
Before the argument could get any more heated, there was a knock at the door. I rushed to answer it and found Elijah standing on the porch. "That was fast."
"I promised you I would explain more and I always keep my promises. May I come in? I have a feeling your friends should hear this as well."
"Of course." We walk into the parlor as Damon tenses up.
"I know Grace has already filled you in on the details and I know some of you are giving her a hard time," He glances at Damon. "So, I'm here to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to ask anything that's weighing on your mind."
Of course, Damon had to speak first. "Don't you think it's a little odd that out of billions of people in the world, Grace is Klaus' soul mate?"
Elijah sighs. "Sadly, I can't answer that for you. Nature picks soul mates, not me. But I can tell you that Nature is never wrong. I have a gift of reading auras. And I assure you, Grace's is very overwhelming and powerful, just like Niklaus'. It's very unlikely to find two that are alike in a lifetime. But I can tell you, there is another pair in this room right now..." Damon smiles at Elena, but is interrupted by Elijah. "I'm afraid you're incorrect. Stefan and Elena are giving off the same aura... I'm sorry, Damon, but she was never meant for you."
For the first time in a very long time, Damon had no smart remark.
"So, how can she help Klaus exactly?" Stefan asks, changing the subject.
"She already has... When I brought Klaus here, he had no reason for living. Most of our family had deserted him, all except for me. But Klaus never had a woman to care for. He never felt anything for anyone. When Grace and Niklaus first met, originally, they were absolutely inseparable. They were always together and she made him complete..."
"Then why would you erase their memory?" Damon asked, thinking he had just gained the upper hand but Elijah responded with elegance and poise.
"Klaus hadn't discovered his true power yet, he was, mentally, just a little boy. He was extremely reckless and I had to let him grow. He didn't know what love was, he didn't realize how powerful he was. I was afraid if I didn't do something, he may have hurt her. Now, he can control himself, and I really think now is a good time to reunite them..."
It was then that I had the courage to speak. "I'm just curious, is there any way I can see what we were like? I mean, I'm kind of blank..." I was almost afraid to know, but according to Elijah, our love was a beautiful thing. And love was all I ever wanted. Sad thing is, I don't even remember it.
He smiles, "I can show you exactly what he saw earlier, when he saw you again." He walks over to me and gently places his hands on either side of my forehead. "Just watch... It'll kind of be like a movie..."
I shut my eyes and then saw a vision. It's me and Elijah... We're at his family's house in New Orleans... We're laughing and talking, then a door swings open, revealing Klaus. He stops and we just stare at each other, as if time had stopped. Then I see us dancing together... It looks like a masquerade ball... We seem to be having a good time, but then something happened... Suddenly, we aren't in the ball room, we're running outside. Klaus is pulling me towards him as I look back at the house which is now engulfed in flames. The vision changes and I am now sitting on a rock by a creek. Klaus is in front of me, behind his easel. "Sweetheart, please be still... I want this to look perfect." I smile at him, how could this lovely man be such a monster?
Before I know it, I'm looking at Elijah again, back in reality.
"So? What did you see?" Damon asks.
"I saw when I first met him... I was with Elijah, then we went to a ball and we were dancing when the house went up in flames... Klaus pulled me out before the house collapsed. Then we were at a creek, he was painting a portrait of me... So, he saw all of that too?" I ask, looking at Elijah.
"Yes, but in a different way... For you, it was like a movie, but you were in it. For him, it was like remembering something that he had forgotten. He remembers every second with you, where as I could only show you a few moments."
"Where is he now?"
He shrugs. "I don't know. I tried to find him, but he disappeared..."
"He's upset with you because you wiped his memory." I added before I could even get my thoughts together. Wait, where did that come from?
He cocks an eyebrow. "How do you know that?"
"I-I don't know..." I stutter.
He grins, "It's the bond. You can read his mind."
"That's impossible, he's an original! No one can read his mind." Damon adds.
"It is impossible, if you aren't his mate..." Stefan mutters.
"Go find him and try to reason with him." Elijah says as we all give him a confused look.
"Elijah, if you can't find him, how can I? And besides, even if I did, what am I supposed to say to him?" I ask.
"Oh, you'll find him... The bond will lead you to him. You'll always be able to find each other and trust me, when you see him, you'll know exactly what to say."
He seemed sure of himself. "Okay... So I just walk outside and..." I shrug.
"Trust me, Grace. You'll know exactly where to go, it's hard for me to explain... Just go. You'll know, I promise."
Okay... Here goes nothing...
