Makiah is walking me out of the house. We get a bit down the street.
"Wow, Makiah, that was pretty incredible. No one talks to my dad like that. Not even me. I wish that my mom could've had the chance to be more like you in that way." I say. "Maybe she wouldn't be dead." I add. "She was a wonderful person but she just was rightfully terrified."
"What? Did he kill her?!" She asks, very concerned.
"He beat her to death." I say, looking away, trying not to cry.
"Why is he not in jail?" She asks.
"He was....for ten years." I say truthfully. "He apparently was proven innocent....." I pause. "But I know the truth because I was in the next room over from where it had happened. No one ever would listen to me though." I add.
"Ugh, people like him shouldn't be out." She says angrily. "Stand up for yourself. You are stronger than him and I already know that." She adds.
I stop walking and turn to face Makiah. "He's all I have. I don't want to lose him again." I say, looking in Makiah's eyes. "Even if it means I have to have some worries."
She gently rests her hand on my cheek, "If you don't stand up for yourself, the world might lose you as well. The world needs you in it." She says.
"You're right." I say. "Next time." I add.
We continue walking and walking until we get to Subway. We order our subs. Makiah is really picky; all she got was ham, turkey, cheese, mayo, mustard, and a bunch of pickles. She's so particular about it but she loves Subway still. She was way too happy on the way over here. We sit and eat our subs.
Makiah gets mustard on her pants, she grunts and wipes it off with her finger and licks it off of her finger.
I laugh.

A few months go by. Prom was great, I took Makiah, Nate was really jealous and stopped hanging out wih Makiah since her and I have been spending more time together.
I stood up to my dad and he hasn't been an asshole since, I actually scared him.
Makiah still hasn't let me ask her to be mine; even after four official dates and many little adventures here and there.
Bryan has stopped bullying Makiah, which is amazing. Most people have. Sometimes people will say bad things about her under their breath and I try to make them stop but Makiah stops me from saying anything. She's too mature for me sometimes. I love her for that though.
I'm going to officially ask her to be mine when we go on our date tomorrow.
***************
I walk over to Makiah's house to pick her up. I'm dressed up in a button up shirt and slacks because it's a semi-fancy date. I knock on the door.
She opens the door.
The girl that I see standing before me, takes my breath away.
She's wearing a beautiful dark blue dress with floral print on it with some black boots. Her hair is curled, which she never has it like that.
"I need an inhaler because you make it hard to breathe. Gorgeous, simply gorgeous." I say.
She blushes.
"That's my love." I say, smiling.
"Stop making me blush!" She demands.
"I can't help it, you are breathtaking and get more beautiful with each glance that I take of you." I state. I hold my hand out, "Shall we?" I ask.
"We shall." She says as she grabs onto my hand.
We walk happily to my truck. I open her door, per usual. She get in. I run over to my side to get in. Then we're off.
I take her to a fancy restaraunt. She is so picky, she tried to order chicken strips and fries! Oddly enough, they brought her some.
After the restaraunt, I drive us to the view.
She smiles and gets out of the truck.
"Not this again! In the same spot too!" I say, jokingly pouting.
"Oh hush." She says, touching my cheek with her hand, so very gentle.
