Chapter 4; I'm just.. tired (edited)
When I got to the school gates, I sighed and pulled out my right earplug, leaving my left in my ear, blaring Skillet. I glance at my iPod and realized I was about 20 minutes early. "Damn, I'm such a idiot!" I groaned, rubbing my temple. I shouldn't have ran out like that and worse yet, the bad boy of the school had seen just pathetic I am.
Groaning in frustration, I enter the gates and head to the back garden that I found yesterday. When I entered the garden, I perch on the edge of the fountain and quietly start singing, taking advantage of the privacy and quiet. "On the ground I lay. Motionless in pain. I can see my life flashing before my eyes. Did I fall asleep? Is this all a dream? Wake me up, I'm living a nightmare!" My voice was quiet as I sang the first verse of Time Of Dying by Three Days Grace.
I gaze into the fountain as I sang out the chorus, reaching my hand out to let the water pour down onto my fingers. "I will not die, I will survive. I will not die, I'll wait here for you. I feel alive, when you're beside me. I will not die, I'll wait here for you. In my time of dying."
My voice, unconsciously, grows louder as the second chorus comes around. " On this bed I lay. Losing everything. I can see my life passing me by. Was it all too much. Or just not enough. Wake me up, I'm living a nightmare."
"You have a beautiful voice." Ryder's voice suddenly cuts through my daze and with a loud cry, I slipped off the fountain edge and onto the hard ground. My eyes shot up to see Ryder leaning against the brick wall that surrounds the garden, watching me with those smothering golden brown eyes of his.
"You know, it's rude to sneak up on person like that." My voice came out breathless as I struggle to my feet. Ryder flashes me a smirk, tilting his head up as his gaze intensified. "I don't recall ever saying I was nice," Ryder drawls, his arrogant smirk driving me insane. Flustered, I managed to get to my feet and sent a glare his way. "Oh look-y there, Ms. Good Girl can actually glare," He teases.
My cheeks instantly flush, "I- I- just-" I stutter helplessly. He rolls his eyes and pushed off the wall, stalking towards me. I shuffle back but it was pointless because my back hits a pillar behind me. "Trapped now, aren't we?" Ryder taunts, his brown eyes flashing playfully.
My eyes widen as Ryder's lips curl up into a mischievous smirk. "What do you want?" I managed to spit out. His brown eyes darken as he stood in front of me. "Don't come back here later. Just stay away from here for the rest of the day, okay?"
I frown in confusion, momentarily forgetting that he had a arm stretched out beside my head and a hand pressed above my head against the pillar as he towers above me. "Why?" I question, my blue eyes seeking out his golden brown. Ryder turns his cold gaze onto me, "Just do it!" He snaps.
I flinch back at his angry tone causing him to sign when he notices. "I'm sorry. Just don't come here," Ryder says in a softer tone. I open my mouth to respond but the bell rings before I could. Ryder withdraws the arm above my head and backs away. "Remember what I said, Keeva," He commands gently but firmly, his eyes piercing into me, making shivers run down my spine.
With that, Ryder turns and walks away, leaving me leaning against the pillar, wide-eyed, and breathing hard. After collecting myself and my stuff, I rush off to class. I managed to make it to class before the late bell rang. "Good morning, Keeva," Mr. John greets warmly. I smiled, "You too, Mr. John."
"Teacher's pet," A boy sneers under his breath as I passed making me flinch. Ryder was already in his seat next to me and I see him glare at the boy as I sit down. Than his eyes turn on me and I immediately advert my gaze to my lap.
"Here," Ryder says gruffly, tossing a book onto my desk. I jump in surprise and feel my cheeks heat up. "I heard you don't have your text book yet and was told to share mine." I nodded at his explanation, nervously tucking hair behind my ear. I could still feel his eyes boring into me and I struggle to ignore him as I fought the urge to meet his intense gaze.
I suddenly yawn and rub my hand over my eyes in sleepiness. "Stupid nightmares..." I mutter to myself. Looking up for just a moment, my eyes immediately clash with Ryder's.
His eyes were filled with confusion, anger, worry, and a bit of concern. My eyes were wide as I stared at him. "Keeva?" I'm shocked out of my daze by Mr. John calling on me. "Yes?" I ask quietly, yawning again. Mr. John was watching with concern, "Would you like to be excused?" He asks gently, "You seem rather exhausted."
I rub my right eye again and smiled tiredly up at him, "Oh may I? I'm afraid I didn't get much sleep last night." Mr. John nods in response, "Of course, Keeva." He turns his gaze to Ryder, "Can you escort her back to the dorm, Ryder?"
I hear a agitated sigh from Ryder before he stands up. "Yeah, sure," He growls. I silently pack up my stuff before following him. We enter the hallway, the classroom door shutting behind me.
"Come on," Ryder orders softly, his brown eyes gentle as they flicker to mine for a second. I obediently follow behind him as he exits the school. "We're taking my bike. It'll be faster," Ryder suddenly informs me. I nodded, blushing a little as I glance at him. Ryder stops and turns around to stare at me, "Are you too tired to even give me a answer?!" He snaps, obviously frustrated with me.
I let out a soft sigh, "I'm sorry. I'm just.. tired..." I replied, wanting to just lie down and rest. Ryder eyes me, "Yeah, I can see that," He states after a moment of silence. Blinking, I gesture towards the gates that lead to the parking lot, "So are we going to go or not?"
Ryder nods and starts walking again, leading me over to a black motorcycle. That's when I hesitated, "We're riding on that?" I said nervously. Ryder pauses where he was standing beside the bike. "You'rue never ridden one before?" He asks over his shoulder, a unreadable look in his eyes as he stares at me.
My heart thuds painfully in my chest, "No," I state,"No, I have not." Ryder stress-fully runs a hand through his shaggy hair before beckoning me closer. Curious, I approach him and stand in front of Ryder.
He takes me surprise and suddenly lifts me so I was straddling the bike. I steady myself by pressing my palms into the seat in front of me and peer up at Ryder. He reach a hand out to grasp the back of my neck and tilts my head up more so I was staring him in the eyes."All you have to do is hold onto me, princess, think you can manage?" I nod at his raised eyebrow.
Ryder let out a sharp intake of breath because releasing my head and grabbing a helmet hanging on the handle. He turns around and puts it on me, slowly latching it under my chin. His brown eyes were trained on the latch as he fumbles with it but snap up to mine when he hears my small intake of breath. Ryder's fingers brush my skin just barely but enough to get my heart racing even more as he pulls his and back.
I watch silently as Ryder mounts the bike in front of me. After he was firmly seated on the bike, Ryder reaches around, grasping my wrists gently, and pulls them so they were wrapped around his waist. "Hold on tight and do not let go, princess." Shivers ran down my spine at his last tone and pet name but I gave him a solid nod.
"Good girl," He praises, smirking a little making my annoyance bubble up. I glare at him but immediately yelp when the motorcycle rumbles beneath us. I hear a low chuckle from Ryder before he races out of the parking lot.
My grip tightens around his waist and I bury my head in his leather jacket clad back. "It's okay, princess," I hear him murmur to me. My body started trembling slightly but I ignored it and tried to calm my nerves.
