Knocking On My Door

It came knocking every night as I lay in bed; not being able to sleep. The first night it came knocking I would rush to the front door in confusion and interest. Who would come knocking on my door near the tick of midnight? Every time I opened the door I was met with nothing but the empty space that stood at my door. It came knocking five times before I would fall asleep and hear the knocking no more.

It happened again the next night.

And the next.

By the fourth night I sat in the couch of my living room; waiting to hear the knocking at my door. Once, it knocked. I stood up fast; nearly falling asleep before. I rushed to my door, opening it and yelling "No more! No more!"I closed the door; sitting again. My eyes nearly close again, but there came the knocking. Hastily I stood up and walking quickly to my door. "No more, no more. Stop knocking on my door." I yell again as I look at the empty space that is at my door.

I stood, waiting at my door. I could not wait anymore. The knocking came again so I open the door, "Please, no more, no more. You need to stop knocking on my door!" I close the door, walking to my room. I could not take anymore.

It came again.

Rushing to my door, I did not want this anymore. Opening the door, I came to someone standing at my door. "Why do you keep on yelling 'No more, no more!'?" This man dressed in all black asked me.

"Well I could no longer stand the knocking on my door." I say as I continue to look over the man who stood at my door. I could not help to think, 'You look exactly like me'.

"Well you are in good luck as there will be no one knocking on your door." He says with my smile on his face.

"Why will there be no more knocking on my door?" I ask the man.

"Because you will be no more." He says as he steps through my door. Out comes a blade and in it goes, stabbing me slowly. "Now I won't have to knock anymore."

Author's Note:
This is one of my favorites. What's your favorite part?

Question: Do you like Edgar Allen Poe?

Fun Fact: I did this as a mix of The Raven and The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allen Poe, one of my favorite authors. This is meant to show what happens to people with suicidal thoughts and depression. The man who killed the main character at the end is supposed to represent the suicidal thoughts of the main character. The knocking is to show how persistent these thoughts can be.
