Carter’s POV:

I sat still in the front seat while my mom played a song she thinks she knows the words to. I looked around at all the passing trees and houses, the music that blared from my headphones not sufficing in blocking out my irritable mother. I tensed a little as we pulled into the parking lot,’Welcome to University of Boston Freshman’ was written on the main building. My mom found a random spot and turned the car off and I turned my iPod off and stepped out from our small white car. The September air chilling through me. I stepped towards my mom and she smiled.

"I’m going to miss you so much!" she cried out and wrapped her arms around me, I let out a soft groan and wiggled against her grip.

"Do you need help getting settled? I can help you?" she offers and then makes a frown and pulls me in again "I’m going to miss you!"

"Moom.." I groan and pull her away and look around for someone to show me where my dorm is.

"Sorry honey." she says in a low tone and continues to stare at me.

"Do you see anyone who can help us?" I continue to look around at all the other freshman unloading their cars and saying their goodbyes to their parents. I never really understood how people were so attached to their parents - my relationship with my parents was a steep up and down slope of complete hell.

Moving to Boston was the best thing I’ve ever done.

"Over there." my irritating mother points to a tall man wearing a green shirt and holding papers and passing them out to other freshman.

"Can you just stay here and I will get my dorm number. Okay?" I say and she nods again contorting her face.

"You are growing up so much!" she attempts to pull me again but I walk away to avoid anymore contact. I walk to the tall man with blonde hair and attempt to get his attention.

"Hello? Excuse me?" he continues to pass out papers and I read his name-tag while he is shifting around.

"Niall?" I say finally and he turns quickly to me.

"Do I know you?"

"No, but can I have one of those?" I point to the papers and push some of my red hair back.

"Oh right, here." he hands me one and I smile, thanks.

"Yeah. Have fun here." he says with a smile, a gorgeous one at that.

"Thanks." I smile back and he nods and I start to walk away.

"Wait! I didn’t catch your name!" he says with a laugh and I turn and smile again.

"Carter."

"Carter." he nods and continues to pass out papers and I walk back to my mom and her invasive crying.

"Did you get the paper?" she asks and I roll my eyes.

"No I just found this paper on the ground." I look at the paper and search for my name.

"Who’s your roommate?" she asks. Typical.

"Um..Tanner Collins?"

"Is that a boy or a girl?" my mom says laughing.

"Shut up I bet she is nice." I say and she shrugs continuing to laugh.

"What dorm number?"

"Building F room 62" I answer all her pestering questions and climb back into the car.

"Do I have to drive to building F then?" she says stepping into the car.

"Clearly otherwise I would have walked away."
