 Carter's POV:

I sit in the room all night unpacking and organizing my side of the dorm. I attempted to feel comfortable here but it just wasn't happening. Everything felt off.

I grabbed my laptop and looked up my schedule and sighed.

All morning classes and a few in the afternoon - not enough in the afternoon I should add.

"Hey, you're still up?" Tanner said walking in with Harry closely behind her.

"Yeah" I replied.

"Well I don't want to keep you from doing whatever you're doing. See you tomorrow." she said smiling.

"Oh um...okay?" I said "bye Harry."

"See ya." he said showing his dimples and pushing his curls back.

They exited the room and I sighed. The air felt heavy and I just felt sad, like nothing seemed right. As much as I tried I just couldn't make this place feel like home. I stood up from my "comfy" place on the bed and rummaged through my drawers for pj's. I began to undress when the door knob turned and in came Zayn and he stood in the doorway staring at me while I tried shielding myself.

"Knock ever?" I said annoyed.

"Where's Tanner?"

"She left with Harry." I replied biting my lip hoping I'd disappear.

Best first day ever?

"Oh."

"Can you like look away now?" I said with a confused look on my face.

"Don't flatter yourself babe, I don't want to see that anyway." he winked and walked out of the room and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. I finished getting dressed and settled into my bed letting sleep take away the exhaustion I was feeling.

...

..

.

I woke to the sound of my ringing 5:47am alarm and I knew from that moment on, this school year started too soon. I crawled out from my comfy warm position in my bed and straight into the bathroom. I showered quickly, trying to save as much time before my 7:14 class. I applied makeup and dried my hair then attempted to work with it but then giving up after 15 minutes of wasted time. I walked to my dresser and pulled out a pair of black skinny jeans and a light crème colored shirt which I matched with a cardigan, I grabbed a pair of flats and then picked up my empty books and bag and headed out the door.

I walked a few minutes before finding the on-campus coffee shop and sauntering inside and ordering a large coffee with milk and sugar. As I was stepping out I noticed Niall walking in.

"Hey Niall" I smiled and he returned the favor showing his pearly straight teeth.

"Hey Carter; how's your first day so far?"

"It hasn't even started..." I reminded him and he laughed a little.

"Right, sorry." he laughed "I guess I'm not ready for this school year to start."

"Me either." I laughed and sipped the drink I forgot I was holding.

"Um...do you want to wait for me and I'll walk you to your class?" he offered and I nodded. He walked away, ordered, grabbed his cup then ran back over to me and we walked out into the fall air.

"What do you have first?" he asked holding his cup close to his hands.

"English, with Professor Weddleman" I answered.
