Carter's POV:

"So we were just running, right? And I wasn't looking and I was shouting back at my sister like 'you can't catch me!' and she was right behind me and I wasn't paying attention and I ran straight into my mom and she was holding my birthday cake and it just went everywhere.." Zayn states laughing and I giggle along with him.

"Okay, okay my turn." I sit for a moment but stay quiet.

"Well?"

Nothing comes to mind.

"What's wrong? Don't you have any stories?"

I stare at the ceiling and wished that he'd leave my bed, the overwhelming feeling that I have right now is ridden by sadness and lost childhood memories.

"No"

"Why not?"

"Because every story of my family is just not right" I sigh and pull at the blanket, he doesn't reply and I'm thankful for that.

"Did you lose a family member or something?" his curious side clearly getting the best of him.

"Not exactly"

"Well?"

Do I tell him?

"It's nothing. I'm tired can we go to sleep now?" I can't see him but I know he nodded. I rolled over and stared at the clock sitting by Tanner's bed.

4:07AM.

"My dad isn't very nice either." he states and I stay quiet.

"I don't think you're getting the concept of sleeping?" I laugh and I hear him chuckle.

"I just want to know you better"

"No one really knows anyone" And with that I closed my eyes and fell asleep hoping Zayn did the same.

....

...

..

.

My eyes felt heavier than usual and my head was pounding. I felt around my bed and felt the emptiness.

Of course he didn't stay.

I continued to feel around until I found the source of why I'm awake, my phone. I look at the small print trying to get my eyes to adjust until I clearly read 'Home.' on the screen.

"Hello?" I groggily answer.

"Hi sweetie! How's your first college weekend?" my mom asks far too peppy.

"It hasn't even started yet..."

"I know honey but it's 7AM you should be used to getting up early by now, no?"

"No"

"Well I have someone hear who wants to talk to you! Mason! It's your sister!" I hear shuffeling and my older brother Mason stating how he doesn't wish to speak to me and I roll my eyes.

"Mom it's fine I'll just see him tomorrow. Okay?"

"I just wanted you to talk to him.." she says sniffeling "I miss you so much sweetie."

"Okay mom"

"I really do! Come visit soon?"

"Okay"

"Love you, hit the books!" she says laughing.

"Okay" and with that I hang up the phone and trudge back to my sheets letting sleep overcome the sadness of Zayn's leaving.
