"Okay, Oly, Cole, you guys each have two presents. One from me and one from your guys mom!" Mr. Flow said with enthusiasm.
Mrs. Flow smiled and slid the presents our way. Me and Oly were side by side, sitting on the floor in the living room.
I looked down at my gifts that layed near my feet. One was a medium size box with a dark blue and black stripped wrapping and the words 'welcome home!' were written in white on the top of the box, acquired with a fancy white curly bow in the corner.
The other present was big, with light purple and white pokadots. Like the other box, it also had a bow on top, except this one was a straight purple bow instead.
I was tempted to smile apon receiving gifts, but chose not to. I looked over at Oly. His gifts were simular to mine, except the medium one was gold and white instead of blue and black.
"What are you two waiting for? Open them!" Mrs. Flow said with excitement. I grabbed the medium box and looked at the tag.
The present was from Mr. Flow. I grabbed my notebook, which layed behind me. I wrote a thank you onto the paper and handed it to him.
He smiled and read it. "You're welcome, Cole." He said giving the notebook back, along with the pen.
I set the notebook to the side and turned to the present. I slowly started opening it, causing me to see peaks of what was inside.
I chose to ignore that and continued ripping the wrapping paper apart. Oly leaned closer, watching me open it.
When the last of the wrapping paper was off, I stared at the gift. It was a phone. I've never had a phone before.
I took the phone out of the plastic case and examined it. It was a white touchscreen phone. The only phone I'd ever used was a slid phone with a keyboard, however that phone wasn't mine.
"Wow! You got an iPhone six!" Oly exclaimed. I set the phone down and picked up my notebook and pen. I handed it to Mr. Flow. They all gathered around the notebook to read the message.
Thank you, I've never owned a phone before.
They all smiled and just nodded at Cole. Cole's lips twitched from almost smiling. He rarely smiled, but everytime he did he hated himself for it. He didn't deserved to smile.
"Okay, Open your next present, Cole." Oly said. I obliged and looked at the tag. This one wasn't just from Mrs. Flow, but was also from Oly.
I wrote them both a thank you, they nodded in silent welcome. I started ripping the purple and white wrapping paper off.
However, instead of sneaks of the present, there was a box. I pulled the tape off of the brown cardboard box and did this once more.
I opened the box and slowly looked inside. The present kinda surprised me. It was a guitar.
The guitar was a light brown one. How did they know I could play? I thought.
I took it out of the box. There was a bag of different colored picks taped to the guitar. I took the tape and bag off the guitar. I opened the bag and grabbed a pick at random.
I strummed the guitar. The sound filling my ears.
Oly's eyes shimmered. "Could you play a song?" He asked in an excited manner.
Cole nodded and obliged the request. He thought for a moment. What could he play?
All of me. He thought it was the perfect selection.
He began playing the song, strumming the strings of the guitar with the pick. The sweet sound of music filled his ears as he kept playing.
Cole looked at the family, who were smiling at him. He looked down at the guitar and closed his eyes.
There was no need to focus, he knew the song by heart. He knew each and every little note to hit.
Cole hated it, but he could feel himself wanting to sing too. God, he would, if he still spoke.
What if he did speak? At least a word. Would he have broken his promise?
Cole pushed the thoughts away and finished the song.
The Flows started clapping and cheering, telling him he was a good guitar player.
Cole just nodded, excepting the compliments.
Oly sat on the floor and started unwrapped his presents. The medium one had a type of gaming system called an Xbox 360. With that, he received three different games.
The next present was a selfie stick. The object was apparently a type of camera.
We took a few pictures. Apparently, the good pictures would be hung in my room, on my wall.
And Cole wouldn't admit it, not even to himself, but he was starting to like the family already.
After all, there was only five days left to decide if he wanted to stay permanently.
