Pete's POV

"I am the light in the darkness, I am the sword in the... What was it again?"

Andy throws his hands into the air in desperation. "Pete, you're hopeless! You're never gonna remember it!"

"Not when my teacher has that attitude", I mumble, but I'm stopped by a piercing look from Andy's steel blue eyes. "Okay, please say it again. I'll try to remember it, I swear."

"Sure...", Andy starts again. "The sun rises, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until I end. I shall do no harm, be clean of selfishness and fight for nothing but my friends. I shall wear no crown and win no glory. I shall live and die for my brothers, for my God, who is the only one who can ever command me."

He stops for a second, takes a deep breath and continues. "I am the light in the darkness, I am the sword in the losing battle, I am the watcher over the weak, I am the fire that burns against the cold. The light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realm of the dead. I pledge my life and honour to the Archangels. For this day and all days to come."

I raise my eyebrows. "Jesus Christ, that's long." I sigh. "Okay... The sun rises, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until I die-"

"Until you die, Pete?", Andy shouts so loudly his voice cracks. "You're already motherfucking dead!"

This is just too much. I start laughing hysterically, holding my hands over my stomach because it hurts so much. My friend was just standing there, looking like he just lost all his will to live.

"I'm so sorry", I attempt to say between continuously gasping for air. "I- it was just really funny to me."

"I'm sure it was", Andy grunts, somehow sounding like Severus Snape from the Harry Potter series. "You're done for today, Pete. Though it's not like we achieved anything."

I can't help but feel slightly guilty. Andy tries so hard to teach me the oath of the Archangels and I repay him with not paying attention. He deserves a better apprentice than me.

"Hey, Andy" I turn around. "Tomorrow I'll know it, I promise."

Andy scoffs. "Wanna bet, Wentz?"

Low blow. He knows that when someone proposes a challenge I simply cannot refuse it. "Bet on what?"

"I bet that you can't do it. And if I'm right, you've got to go down into the dungeons at midnight and stay there until dawn. If you're right, I'll do it."

The corner of my mouth twitches up. "Challenge accepted."

Without any further response I run out of the empty, white room Andy and I have been practising in. While sprinting through the Seemingly Endless Corridor, which I've called it, I crash into someone.

"I'm so sorry." The person jumps up. "Are you all right?"

I grunt, standing up again. "Yeah, I'm fine." I look up to see who it is that I've bumped into and nearly get a heart attack. That smile, that messy brown fringe.

I stumble backwards until my back is against the wall. "Who... You...?"

"Did I startle you?", the person stutters. He sticks out his hand, expecting me to grab it. This can't be. It can't be but still it is happening.

I shake it softly. A friendly smile lights up the person's green-blue eyes. My eyes widen as I realise he does in fact not look exactly like Dan. I should've seen it earlier. It's just a boy, not much older than sixteen.

"I'm Dil."

I chuckle, mentally face-palming myself for thinking this could be Dan. "Nice to meet you, Dil", I smile back. "I'm Pete. What brought you here?"
