Kevin tapped his fingers against the table rhythmically as he glanced around the small diner. He cleared his throat awkwardly and looked towards Avi who was immersed in his phone.
"Sooo..." Kevin murmured, earning a bored look from the other boy.
"What?" Avi replied, shortly.
Kevin shrugged, "I don't know. Just trying to start a conversation."
Avi sighed and slid his phone into his pocket. "What do you want to talk about?" He offered.
The taller of the two pressed his lips together and shrugged again. His expression went through a range of expressions; awkwardness, a slight panic, and then confusion, earning an amused grin from Avi.
"So what's the deal between you and Scott?" He blurted out.
Avi's smile instantly fell as he looked down at his fingers tearing apart the straw wrapper. He shook his head, "Nothing. It's nothing."
Kevin's eyebrows knitted together, "Really? Things seemed to be pretty tense. Were you guys—?"
"No!" Avi cut him off, "I'm straight, he's not. Nothing happened between us," he retorted defensively.
Kevin looked at him, clearly uncomfortable. "I mean, I was just gonna ask if you guys were friends and had a falling out but...I can put two and two together man," he assured him.
Avi shook his head, "What? No, there's no putting two and two together. I like girls."
Kevin shrugged, "I don't doubt that. There's more than just—"
"Kevin," Avi warned, raising both eyebrows at him.
Kevin rose his hands up in surrender, "Sorry."
Avi nodded, "Good. Now...where the hell is our food?"
...
"Not only is this creepy, it's also probably illegal," Mitch pointed out in an annoyed tone, before looking over at his best friend's focused look.
Scott shook his head, "All we're doing is following Andrew so we can figure out where he lives, and egg his house later," he replied with a shrug before slowing down to remain incognito.
The brunette groaned dramatically, "This is so juvenile," he whined.
"You're right. But it'll be fun," Scott replied with a shrug before glancing back over at Mitch in the passenger seat. He rolled his eyes, "Don't look at me like that."
"You're gonna get us killed one day. Why am I friends with you?" Mitch quipped, growing more annoyed.
Scott smirked, "Because you love me," he teased as he reached over, jabbing his finger into the smaller boy's shoulder.
"Don't touch me, you're disgusting," Mitch retorted as he swatted Scott's had away.
Scott laughed, and left it at that before focusing on the car turning at the end of the street.
...
"So like, you play cello or whatever, right?" Avi questioned as he retrieved his wallet from his pocket.
Kevin nodded excitedly, "Yeah. I usually cover songs, but I've written a few," he replied.
Avi's eyebrows rose, fairly impressed, "Wow. That's pretty cool."
"Yeah! I have a recital coming up. You should come watch," Kevin offered eagerly.
Avi clenched his teeth together, shaking his head as he dropped his share of the bill on the table. "A recital of classical music doesn't really sound like my thing. Good luck though. Be right back," he added quickly before heading towards the bathroom.
