"Phones," Scalf stated simply, extending his hand; palm up.

A cacophony of groans was heard as the 4 students trudged up to the front desk and handed in their lifelines.

"Alright, no talking for the next 2 hours," the vice principal instructed before sitting down and leaning back in his chair. He grabbed his book of the desk before sighing and opening it to the place he'd left off.

Kevin went over each note of his opening song for his cello recital in his head. He still had two weeks to perfect each piece, but it was still stressing him out to no end.

Kirstie leaned back in her chair, pondering where she and her boyfriend, Andrew, were going for lunch once she was free. You know, the important things in life.

Scott rested his head against his hand, propped up with his elbow against the desk. He tried to think about anything besides whether Avi not showing up was something he should worry about or not.

Mitch stared at the table, forcing himself to refrain from tapping his nails against it. Not only did he not want to get yelled at, he didn't want to ruin them because they looked stunning. He smiled to himself before leaning back in his chair proudly.

5 pairs of eyes traveled over to the door as Avi emerged through the threshold.

"Mr. Kaplan, how nice of you to arrive," Scalf muttered, looking up from his book.

Avi cleared his throat awkwardly before putting his head down and making his way to the back of the room and sitting at the desk as far back as possible.

"Phone," Scalf stated monotonously.

Avi stifled an annoyed sigh before walking back to the front of the room and setting his phone on the desk.

Once he sat back down, the room was engulfed in silence yet again.

About 10 minutes of silence past before they were all startled by the sound of Scalf's phone ringing.

The teenagers attempted to stifled their laughter when the song Cheerleader emanated from the vice principal's phone.

Scalf rolled his eyes as he snatched up his phone, "Oh hush up, it's catchy," he stated in defensive tone as he stood up. As he answered his phone, he hurried out of the room for some privacy.

As soon as he was out of the room, Scott looked in Mitch's direction with an excited grin.

Mitch matched his instantly before they simultaneously belted out, "Oh I think that I found myself a cheerleader!"

They continued to sing in unison, entirely amused by themselves.

Kevin smiled, nodding his head to the beat, trying to form it into a sound.

Scott and Mitch kept singing, but looked back at Kevin excitedly when he added a beat. They danced along in their chairs, doing almost the same movements naturally.

Kirstie laughed and shook her head. She glanced back at Avi who was smiling to himself, but didn't add in either.

Scott looked towards Kirstie, trying to urge her into joining.

She shook her head before glancing back at the door.

They weren't surprised when Scalf appeared in the doorway, still on the phone, looking at them with an annoyed expression.

The three of them continued, and Mitch and Scott provided an amused look for the vice principal.

He found himself chuckling slightly before focusing on his phone call and disappearing out of view again.

Once they got to the end of the song, the three of the participants began laughing.

Mitch looked back at Kevin in awe, "Where did you learn to beatbox like that, that's insane!"

Kevin shrugged and began the studying the ware on the desk awkwardly, "I don't know," he muttered. "What about you? You guys are amazing singers," he countered, trying to get the attention off from himself.

"Practice," Scott replied modestly.

Avi forced himself not to smile himself at the memories of Scott's "practicing" at the most inopportune times.

"What about you? Do you sing?" Mitch questioned, looking in Kirstie's direction.

A blush rose to her cheeks as she shook her head. She did, but she didn't want to be put on the spot.

"You're in choir, right?" Scott added.

Kirstie shrugged, "I mean...yeah but...no I...I don't know," she stammered.

"What part of "no talking" didn't you guys understand?" Scalf questioned as he came back into the room and set his phone back on the desk.

Mitch smirked at him, "You didn't say we couldn't sing," he sang back.

Scalf stifled an eye roll as he crossed his arms, "No talking, no singing, no humming, no sounds of any kind," he declared.

Scott raised his hand, resulting an annoyed look.

"What?" Scalf replied.

Scott pointed at his mouth, silently asking if he could speak.

Scalf hid his amusement with an eye roll, "Speak."

"Technically breathing is a sound. Are we allowed to breathe or...?"

Scalf pinched the bridge of his nose, "And you guys think this 2 hours are difficult for you," he muttered before sitting back down.
