~Dream~
She listens to the retreating footsteps outside her window and breathes deeply before stepping down from the ledge. Voices are heard outside her room for a moment before fading down the hall. She opens the small footlocker at the foot of her 'bed' and takes out her only possessions; black boots, black camouflage combat pants, a navy blue compression shirt, and her black mask. She unsheathes the sword, admiring the way the blade glints with the bursts of lightning outside. She then turns to the door, raises the sword above her head, and brings it down on the handle. It shatters beneath the hardened steel and an alarm goes off as the heavy door swings open. Cautiously, she peeks out into the hallway, seeing that it's empty. The alarm is still blaring and the lights are flashing red, but it's empty; however, it won't be for long. Without another moment of hesitation, she darts down the empty corridor to the stairway at the end and ducks inside. They'll be coming for me any minute now. I have to think fast. She jumps down the four flights of steps to the ground floor without stopping, but as she peeks through the door, one of the soldiers spots her. Before he gets the chance to alert the others, she opens the door and thrusts her blade violently through his skull. He dies instantly and she quickly catches his body and drags it into the stairwell before it hits the floor. She checks the hallway again and hears a mass of footsteps heading her way. Looking down, she spies a small puddle of blood on the floor; a dead giveaway in a very literal way. A small wave of panic sets in and she quickly mops the blood up with the dead soldier's bolaclava. As the footsteps get louder, she shuts the door and subconsciously holds her breath. Six soldiers run past "Experiment 2-05 has gone rouge! Project: Rebirth has been aborted! Repeat! Project: Rebirth has been aborted!" the one leading the others shouts into his radio as they march down the corridor. Once the noise quiets, she checks the hallway again and this time she is able to step into the open without being discovered. There's a slowly-rotating camera mounted on the wall near the corner, so she grabs the soldier's gun and fires at it. When nothing happens, she realizes that she's been locked out of the System. Frustrated, she throws the useless weapon to the ground and ducks back into the stairwell as the camera turns her way. She counts to eight and then opens the door to see the camera turning away. She quickly runs across the hall, into its blindspot, and hugs the wall as she scoots down the corridor. She peeks around the right corner and sees two soldiers exit a room "Send reinforcements to the front gate! 'The Fox is in the henhouse'! We need backup!" a voice buzzes through their radios. They turn to each other with fear "He's finally coming for her." one of them says "Yeah. Now the kid is out and we have to deal with that ninja bastard." the other replies. A ninja? As the two soldiers head in the other direction, she slips into the room they just exited to find another soldier sitting in front of a wall of monitors. Subconsciously holding her breath again, she creeps up behind him and raises her sword, slicing his head off of his shoulders. Her attention then shifts to the screens. She sees several hallways, testing chambers, and the lower lab, but all of the other cameras have been disabled, including the one in her cell. But one blurry screen in particular catches her attention; one on the outside. Looking closely, she's able to make out a distorted figure darting across the screen. The person who was at her window is causing a distraction in order for her to escape. The opportunity will not be wasted. She memorizes which cameras are functioning properly and sets out again. As she steps into the hall, she hears screams echoing from somewhere outside. She knows how to find the exit, but only one way, and it's blocked by a twelve inch-thick steel door and locked by a deadbolt. The only way through is if she has the right level of clearance, and since she's been locked out of the System, she'll have to find another way. Scraping her memory for everything she knows about the facility, she turns around and rushes to the short staircase that leads to the basement. She pads down the corridor, red lights still flashing, until she reaches the lower lab. She tries to push the door open, only to find that the scientists inside have sealed it and alerted the soldiers to her location. Studying the door, she realizes that they created a false contamination to put the laboratory on lock down. The only way the doors will open-from either side-is if someone performs a manual override in the control room. Without enough time to slice the door open, she opts for plan B, and circles around to the other side until she finds a vent in the ceiling. She jumps up, grabs on to the grate, pulls it off, and hoists herself up. About eight pairs of boots are tramping above her head, and coming for her. She pushes her way through the air ducts until she's over the lab, and pushes the grate off of it's hinges. Screams of panic are heard below her as she jumps down, landing amidst the terrified scientists. Three of them start screaming and banging on the door while the other four stare at her in horror. To them, she's not a child; she's a highly volatile specimen. A freak. It's fine when she's drugged and behind three inches of bullet-proof glass, but when she's standing directly in front of them, angry and wielding a sword, she's a science experiment gone horribly wrong. One of them snaps out of their shock and throws a stool at her. She dodges it and turns to him with new rage ignited in her dark grey eyes. At that moment, they all look like they're ready to soil themselves. The scientist steps back in fear and regret as she advances towards him. Without warning, she raises the sword again, rolls her shoulders, and swings it down in a horizontal motion, slicing him in half. The rest all screech in terror as his blood splashes on their faces. She looks at them all with such intensity, raising her metallic index finger to her masked face, wordlessly silencing them all. They realize that as long as they don't attack her, she won't attack them. So they stand frozen in place as she strides over to the emergency exit, pivots on her right foot, brings her left foot up, and kicks the door off of its hinges. With a deep breath, she walks through the doorway and up the set of cement steps that lead to the surface; that lead to freedom. To think that a seven year-old girl created so much devastation is staggering. Once she's outside of the base, she runs far, and she runs fast. And she's still running.
