A Paw at a Time

Chapter 6

I woke up proudly the next day. The events of last night played through my head. I raised my nose in the air thinking of my new name Cash. My family soon woke and we all ate breakfast. My siblings and I played with each other. Afterwards we snuggled up with our mom exhausted, and fell asleep. I awoke awhile later and saw Annie looking down at us. She picked us up and put us in a portable crate and put our mom on a leash. When we were let out we sniffed and rolled around on the grass pouncing on dry leaves that came across our path. Annie threw us toys and laughed at our puppy antics. After awhile we all started getting tired and stretched out, the sun warming our backs. I soon drifted off into sleep.
  When I awoke my siblings and mom were gone. I whimpered and cried. Soon the door swung open and Annie came in with four people following her. They chatted away and I backed away. "Come here Cash!" Annie said cheerfully. Hearing her voice made me feel more confident so I slowly walked over. The two tall humans stood back a few feet from the smaller humans and watched me. The little ones got down on their knees and I walked over and wagged my tail as they gave me all their attention. They started throwing me toys that I retrieved and brought back. The taller humans then spoke up "We'll take him!" They said happily.
"Come with me to fill out the paperwork and you will be able to bring him home tomorrow." Annie said.
Annie dropped me off with my siblings and mother. I was greeted right away.
"Come over here little ones." My mom said to us. We walked over and sat in front of her.
"We need to have a talk. Cash was away because a potential owner was looking at him. We will soon all be separated but we will all have good homes and care. We will all be together in spirit. Always please your owner and don't chew what your not supposed to. You pups are my pride and joy."  Mother finished happily. I let the words sink in I was sad at first but realized this was for the better. I think my siblings did too. We chatted a bit, ate dinner, then all snuggled close for the last time together.
