Like Kirie, Manaolana was not a normal child.  But I'll let Manaolana tell it where it all started for her.

(Manaolana point of  view)

Hi I'm Manaolana, but you can call me Maddy if you want. You see that's picture on the top, that's my dad. I bet your wondering a wolf can't be my dad. Well he's not my real dad. Also I have a mom and a (slightly annoying) older brother, they are also wolves.

You are probably wondering why do I live with wolves? Well, you see they took me in my dad died and I couldn't go with my mom cause well she left us.

I didn't know her. All I had left of her was her black leather jacket and I wore it all the time. Which never ripped or grew out of. Which was a little strange for me because I live in the woods with a pack of wolves.

But I never got to big for it. It was like it grew with me. That or I am shorter than I thought.

Anyway you wanna hear the story of how this all happened. No?!? Well I'm going to tell it anyway.

Like I said before my mom left us. So I lived with my dad in a small cabin in the woods with a town near by and a other house about half a mile away. I heard that a little girl lived there but I wasn't allowed to go there. I still went to school in the town though.
Living in the woods was really fun. When we didn't have school, I could play all day in the wood as I didn't go to far. Sometimes my dad even let me go in the lake. But the fun quickly ended.

It was my birthday, October 20th, and I was turning five. I was outside when my dad called out to me from the  cabin. "Come on Manaolana we're about to do the cake" "Coming dad." I got up off of the dirt and dusted myself off.
But just then I seen the most beautiful butterfly. And I couldn't help but chase it. I loved butterflies. When I ran after it, I heard my dad scream in pain.

"Daddy!" I ran toward the house as fast as I could. I opened the door and saw my dad lying there. My dad was on the floor surrounded by blood. Tears were streaming down my face like a river.  "Daddy!" I seen where he was hit when I walked towards him. There was a huge cut in the head and a couple more on the side of his stomach.

I walked back still staring at him at disbelief when I hit something hard, which I thought was the was wall. I turn around and seen the man who killed my dad. He looked like a lumberjack with his flannel, cut pants and his axe. But with his smile, he looked like a mad man. There was blood on his shirt and axe.

I slowly backed away from him not saying a word. He started to walk towards me. Fear got the best of me and I ran, he ran after me. But of course he caught up to me. He gave me a couple scratches on my arm that would leave forever scars.
I finally escaped his clutches and I ran in the room that me and my dad shared and locked the door. I hid under the bed terrified, not knowing what to do or where to go.

I heard silence so I calmed my breath hoping he was gone. But then there was a bang on the door. Bang bang. After from succeeding on the break in, he comes in. His foot creaked against the the loose floor board.

"Come out where ever you are, you little brat."he said. He looks in the closet. He was getting closer to me. Fear got of the best of me (again)and I got out of my hiding spot and jump out the window. I ran as fast as I could and didn't look back.

I stopped at the river and looked at my reflection. My arms were still bleeding. I crouch down and sobbed in my hands. "Don't cry my child." A soothing voice said from behind me.

I looked up and in the reflection of the water I saw fur, teeth, and big eyes, a wolf. I turned around and backed up in the pond. "Oops I forgot." The wolf suddenly turned in a girl with black  long braided  hair.

I starred in awe. " Are you ok?" She asked. I nodded, I was too shocked to say anything. "What is your name little one?"

"M-M-Manaolana" I stuttered   "Well Manaolana, I'm Artemis, goddess of chastity, virginity, the hunt, the moon, and the natural environment." I starred at her in confusion.

She chuckled." I know it's a lot for a five year old. Now enough about me, where is your dad?" I looked down. She saw the cuts on my arms and she nodded. Even though I didn't say anything, she seemed to understand. "Come child."

She picked me up out of the pond and into her arms which were warm and soothing. "Where are we going?" I asked. "A place where they would take care of you, a new home." I stood quiet for the rest of the way.

We soon ended up at a cave. She put me down and gave a loud bark. A pack of wolves then came out. I hid behind the girl, I was terrified. She seemed to be speaking to them. Then she turned to me. "Listen there's no need to be afraid. In fact get used to them, they are going to be your family."

I starred at her like if she was crazy. The wolves then surrounded me as if to say they'll protect me." Little one, be safe. I know things seem bad but they will get better. Never be afraid because the fear will go away and why feel it when it's going to go away. Stay strong. Wait I can't believe I forgot!"

She kissed me on the forehead, It tickled." Oh and here" she gave me my mom's leather jacket. "I have a feeling you're going to need it one day." She gave me a little wink. "Goodbye little one and good luck."

And like that, she was gone. "Come on. Let's go into the cave and get some rest." "Who said that" I thought. I looked at the wolves and they were the ones speaking. I was amazed that I understood them. They took care of me as if I was their own. And I still accepted them as my family, because they were.
