Act 2 Scene 1
This a scene in the cafeteria, no one is present but David and Robin.
Robin-Are you sure about this? You don’t have to tell me anything, I’m all better now.
David-No, I have to. I made a promise, plus…I just have to, I have to tell someone.
Robin-(silent for a moment) Alright.
David-(smiles sheepishly) Deep breath.
Robin-It’s okay, take your time.
David is silent for a long minute finally he speaks.
David-Well, you know how my grades have been going nuts, rising and falling?
Robin-Yes.
David-Well, it’s because there’s…I have a problem with my classes, with myself, I guess.
Robin-Why?
David- That’s the thing I don’t know. It was just like this, I was sitting in class one day and I just get this feeling. Like I’m not supposed to be there, that I’m meant to do something else.
Robin-Well maybe you are.
David-Yeah but the thing is the classes I’m in are all for business.
Robin-And?
David-Well, I think…that I want to do something else.
Robin-I think we’ve already covered this.
David-But my parents are so proud of me and my old desire to go into business but the more I look at it the more I don’t want to do that I want to do something ...different.
Robin-Do you have an idea?
David-I’ve been looking at construction work, architecture. I love to see how they put the buildings together and make it look like art.
Robin-Well, there you have it, you love so why don’t you do it.
David-But my parents…
Robin-Just tell them, it’ll be fine.
David-Easy for you to say.
Robin-And easy for you to do, you’ve told me, right? It can’t be that much harder to tell your parents. Teens are supposed to worry about peer pressure right, so if you can tell me with no problems you’ll be fine.
David-I guess.
Robin-(smiling) you’ll see, it’ll work out, I promise.
Billy and the others enter and take seats.
Robin-Hey guys.
Addison-Hey, what are you two talking about?
David-Nothing.
Billy-(looks around) Hey, you know I was thinking-
Addison-A dangerous exercise.
Billy-(Billy gives her a stern look that melts into a smile)You know what’s weird?
David-What?
