Chapter 2- Melina Shantel POV
A moving truck! I race down the stairs. "Mom! There's a moving truck!" I practically yell to my mom who is cooking pancakes.
"Yes, I know, Mel," my mom says in that gentle voice. "Oh, you should probably come and say 'hi' with me."
"Yeah Mom, I will. After breakfast," I say grabbing a plate.
"No, Mel. We are bringing pancakes over and having breakfast there. Can you grab paper plates and plastic forks?" She says while flipping the last pancake.
"Sure, but I also need to get dressed," I say. I really hope they have a teenage daughter over there. I run upstairs and get dressed. We head out the door, across the street to the neighbor's house. I knock on the door because my mom has pancakes in her arms.
Chapter 2- Katy Hayes POV
I hear a knock on the door at around nine. My mom answers it and I quickly get dressed. I hear voices. Something like, "We wanted to welcome you to Albroke and brought over pancakes."
I hadn't realized how hungry I was until I heard pancakes. "Oh, how wonderful," I hear my mom say, "Let me call my husband and daughter for breakfast. Martin! Katy!"
I slowly walk down the stairs and peak over the wood railing. "Yes?" I ask my mom, I notice my dad coming from the living room.
"Some neighbors came with pancakes!" My mom said squealing, she does this all the time she loves the neighbors.
"Yay," I say sarcastically.
"I'm sorry she doesn't like meeting new neighbors. Katy," she gives me the death stare. "Well come on in, Martin can you help me set up the table quickly?"
"Of course honey," he says.
"So," my mom starts, "This is Mary and her daughter Melina. This is my husband Martin, and my daughter Katy."
"So, Katy, are you excited for 11th grade," Mary asks.
"I guess," I answer. I then see them walk in and I notice a pink haired teenage girl, very tiny and well odd looking girl. She looks way younger than she probably is. This must be Mary's daughter, Melina.
"Mary, what do you do for a job?" My mom says. Ugh, she always does this, wants to find out what jobs other people have.
"Oh, well I'm an administrator for an online community. I make sure no one is getting hurt or everything's appropriate," Mary answers.
"Oh, must be nice. I run a website where people chat, you know just a place for people blog, and stuff. It's really nice because Martin's job has us moving a lot," my mom says in a bragging way. While they talk the table and chairs get put together and somehow we are all sitting down having pancakes.
My parents talk with Mary Shantel, about how her husband died of a brain tumor and they have lived here, in Albroke, since forever. I stare at the small Melina, barely eating a thing. She looks as if she is all bones, like she doesn't get any food, sunlight, or sleep. I was raised by parents, never allowed to say anything that is rude. So I waited till the adults went to the living room.
"Katy, show Melina your room," my mom had said to me.
Once they left I started to be well, rude. "Well, Mel. Why are you so- what's the word- small." I asked.
"Um-" before she said anything I cut her off.
"I'm sorry, I just had to ask. And what's with Mel?" I heard about ten times Melina's mom, Mrs. Mary Shantel (as she insisted on being called), call Melina: Mel.
"My dad called me Mel, because they thought I was a boy, and they named me Mel. He never got over that," Melina answers. "And about being small, my dad was too."
"Oh, want to go up to my room? It's kinda plain. I'm just warning you," I told her.
Chapter 2: Jo Lee POV
It's music to my ears, wait no it isn't. Over 3 months my younger sister has managed to ruin my summer vacation of Summer Music Awesomeness. I was going to see two concerts! Learn how to play the clarinet! Instead I was stuck teaching my sister, Laura, how to play the tuba- and she sounds like a dying camel!
