CHAPTER THREE
— LUKE —

I strolled towards my vehicle, car keys jingling like bells in my hand as I twirled them around my finger, all the while whistling the latest song the boys and I had been writing. It was titled 'She's Kinda Hot,' and it was so catchy it got stuck in my head almost immediately after we had gotten the final word on the page. When I finally reached my car, I jammed the key into the lock and unlocked the door, then slipped into the drivers seat and pulled out my cell phone to check the notifications I had.

' fluffy ashton: Hey Luke you don't have to text me back or anything but I was just going to say that when you're done bothering your sister come back to the studio! We got new ideas :)' sent 1:35 pm

I smiled to myself and threw my cell phone onto the chair next to me and started up the car. I didn't like to think of my interactions with Abigail at her school as "embarrassing her". Hell, I would've given anything for an older sibling to bring me McDonald's, rather than choke down that stale mystery meat the school dared to call chicken. I simply thought I was being a good brother, and that's the way I intended for things to stay.

Abby's friend, Samantha, on the other hand, seemed to give me more attention than my own sister. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that she has a crush on me. However, I know she doesn't because she and I have known each other too long... that'd be weird, right?

Also, I'm already preoccupied with my own girlfriend. Her name is Justine, and we've been "going steady" for a little over a year now. I met her when she was just a fan at one of our concerts, and I was immediately smitten by her. A few weeks later, she came to the boys' and I's soundcheck, and after the concert I managed to meet her again and get her number. Our first date was at a little coffee shop down the street from her house, a place she had been dying to take someone to for ages. We spent a lot of time together over the next couple of weeks, then I had dinner at her family's house for Thanksgiving, and they seemed to like me a lot, so I decided to throw it all out there and ask her to be my girlfriend. She accepted, and we've been together since.

Justine gets along with the other boys, as well, which is obviously a huge plus. Some days she'll tag along in our gaming sessions, other days she'll hang out with Abigail and they'll go to the mall or get their nails done or something. So altogether, Justine has been a great addition to my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

My thought process is interrupted by a sudden phone call from Michael. I slide the lock across my phone screen and bring the phone up to my ear as I slowly back my car out of the parking lot. "Um.. hello?"

"Lucas, where are you?" Michael's husky voice responded from the other end. "We're all sitting around waiting for you. We're not getting any younger, you know."

"I know, I know, I'm sorry. Ashton just texted me." I pulled the car out of the parking space and began to head out of the school zone. "He told me you guys are busy working at the studio."

"Oh, that's a lie," Michael responded simply. "As soon as you left, we ordered a pizza and went to Calum's house to play Monopoly."

"Without me!" I cried. "C'mon, Michael, you know how much I love Monopoly."

"Yeah, yeah, you big baby. You can join as soon as you get here. And bring us some more food while you're at it." Before he hung up, Michael muttered, "Oh, yeah, and I forgot... your girlfriend's here to see you."

"Why didn't you guys tell me this before?" I cried out, exasperated. If there was one thing I hated, it was making Justine wait. Sure, she had never come out in the open and said it annoyed her, but there's just a whole bunch of things I feel that I don't know about her. I just had this gut feeling that somebody who is that perfect and positive all the time must be dealing with something else... right?
