CHAPTER FOUR
— SAMANTHA —

After school, I hurried to the front of the building to meet up with Abby. "Hey," I smiled. Abby looked kind of rundown but her face brightened once she turned and saw me. That gave me a warm, bubbly feeling inside that I could finally make somebody happy.

"Samantha!" she cried, pulling me into a hug and ignoring the dirty looks from those around us trying to get to the front door. "Are you feeling any better?"

"Yeah, sort of kind of," I nod, feeling my face grow hot. "I think I'm on my... period. Yeah, I'm on my period... Hate those."

"Really? Your period's been going on that long?" Samantha questions. "I remember just last weekend you came to my house for that sleepover, and you had to ask my father if we had any pads because you forgot to bring one. He was so shook when you asked that question!"

I chuckle nervously. "Maybe it's not my period, after all. I didn't see blood or anything, so maybe it's just all in my imagination. Maybe the cramps are, from... I don't know... maybe I got hit in the gut with a football or something in gym... Or, maybe there's an alien baby in my stomach that's finally growing. Or even..."

Abby raises an eyebrow, clearly not believing any of the lies that were spewing out of my mouth.

Luckily for me, Dustin came over and immediately interrupted our conversation. "Heyyyy, Samantha," he sang flirtatiously, a smirk on his face.

"A- and Abby," Abby interjects nervously, holding up a finger, but Dustin ignored her.

"You going anywhere today? Want to ride to the mall with me and a couple of friends?" Dustin asks me, looking me directly in the eye.

"No, she can't," Abby humphs, blowing a strand of hair out of her face. "She's on her period. Or whatever."

"Oh, that sucks," Dustin mutters, still not taking his eyes off of me. "Do you need me to bring you some... girl stuff?"

"I'm fine," I glare at Abby, she's making me EXTREMELY embarrassed. "I'll see you later." I immediately grabbed Abby's arm, and led her away from Dustin, who was standing there confused. I dragged her down a fairly empty hallway that's a shortcut outside to the bus circle.

"Why would you tell Dustin that?!" I cried out, my face getting that hot feeling again. "He didn't need to know all that! Now he probably thinks I'm some kind of moody, bloody crampy freak who can't even drag herself out of bed to go to the mall. I'm not saying I was going to accept or anything, but now that's probably what he's going to spread to all of his little guy friends. The cute ones!"

"Samantha, periods are something every girl goes through. It's not that big of a deal," she muttered rolling her eyes. "Plus, I guess I was just a little bit jealous that Dustin wasn't paying any attention to me. Why didn't you help me out, Sammy? Didn't you see how embarrassed I was?" Abby looked at me, blinking, and I noticed her eyes were kind of moist. Her mascara was going to run if she kept that up.

I don't give her a response. We finally get to the door in front of the bus circle, and I push it open exasperated. "Where's your brother's car?" I ask as soon as we get outside, still kind of pissed.

Abby scans the wide arrangement of cars, and then points in a general direction that really doesn't answer my question at all. "Over there," she responds, not even giving me a look, and I start to head in that direction. But to my dismay, she goes with me.

As soon as we get there, Abby taps on the window rather forcefully, and Luke rolls it down. My heart wasn't ready for the beauty that's displayed in front of me. His blonde quiff hair looked hotter than usual. The facial expression on his face looked kind of sad . The silver ring on his bottom lip drew me into his pink lips, and I started daydreaming about what it would be like to kiss them one day; his lip ring cold against my own mouth and... "Hey, sis, and friend," he smirked, acknowledging both of us.
