CHAPTER FIVE
— SAMANTHA —I'm horrible.
I'm a horrible, terrible person. I stole something that belongs to the one person I love, the person I hold high above anybody else in this demented and dangerous universe. I took one of his possessions, I took one of his belongings and now he's gonna hate me forever. He's going to find out that I was the one who took it before I get a chance to return it, and he's going to be mad at me forever and never give me another ride in my life- yet alone think of me as highly as I do of him.
The other half of my mind, however, thought that I had done something that would help Luke and I's potential relationship. I mean, I had just stole the cell phone of a girl who had obviously spent time with Luke in his car... I wonder if they had been in the backseat. I wonder if Luke and her had had as close of an encounter as Luke and Claire-Ann. In that case, what I did couldn't be that terrible. At least it was a cell phone I found, and not a thong!
I took a deep breath staring at the unidentifiable cell phone in front of me. And then my curiosity took over and my finger pushed the power button and it flashed white, signaling to me that it had turned on. The logo of her cell phone provider immediately showed on the screen. And then the lock screen came up just as fast, showing a picture of a brunette haired girl doing a duck face next to a person who appeared to be Shawn Mendes.
I'm 90.9% sure this is not Shawn Mendes' phone.
So it must be the girl's, then.
I couldn't get over how drop dead gorgeous she was. Comparing her next to me was like comparing an Instagram model to a... I don't know, but something ugly.
Her lips were plump and were colored with a plum matte. Her hair landed just about at her shoulders, with strands that were long and straightened. Even her outfit screamed gorgeous- she had the strap of a Givenchy cross body bag across her shoulder, a rolled up over-sized denim jacket on her shoulders, a pair of high waisted red jeans and a pair of heels that made her appear super tall. If this is who I'm against in terms of being with Luke, I'm at a huge disadvantage.
The cell phone of course didn't allow me in when I tried to unlock it. My heart fell when I realized there was a digit code in order to get in. After three failed attempts, a hint for the passcode came in- My birthday, duh!
I didn't even know who this girl was, let alone her birthdate. So, I decided to call Abby's phone to see if she knew. Even though Abby and I weren't on the best of terms at the moment, I figured she would help me find this little detail out. I just had to find a way to pose the question so it wasn't obvious that I had stole a girl's cell phone from out of Luke's car and was trying to break into it to make sure she wasn't of any threat to me.
Abigail answered after the second ring. "Hey, Sammy. I was wondering if you were gonna call. Did you get home alright?"
"Yeah, just fine," I responded. "What about you? How was your party?"
"It was okay," Abby mumbled, and then quickly changed her mind. "Actually, it was the worst. This boy named Ross wouldn't stop hitting on me! He kept trying to dance with me, and it was obvious he was either drunk, bad at dancing, or both." She chuckled. "Then, to make matters even worse, halfway through Harry arrived and tried to get me to talk to him. I kept telling him I wasn't interested but he just wouldn't leave me alone, so we had a full blown out argument and everyone watched. And then, Harry realized he wasn't getting anywhere with me, so he took some blonde girl home with him and Ross gave me his phone number even though he knows damn well I'm never going to call him. It was an atrocious night, and I have such a headache."
