January 30th, 2550. A snowy, cold winter day indeed, the birds were flying south, the servant bots were still charging. In a house at 2356 Gillot Dr. was a particularly normal family. Jared, being the head of the home called for a family meeting in the kitchen to announce the 7th anniversary of his marriage to his wife, Maria, and to celebrate the birthday of his first born son Edward.
It was a normal day in Thristan City. The guards checked every home for any defective servant bots. The wind was blowing and the pets stayed cuddled up in their homes. It was 0700 in the morning. The bots had made breakfast for the families. Everything was going as it did every day.
"Hey Jared, how's the bots today?" Said the guard. "They're doing great as usual, I appreciate you coming every morning to check on them!" Replied Jared. "Mind if I take a look at all?" The guard insisted as he looked around the house. "Not at all sir."
Jared led the guard to the bots charging posts and the guard inspected closely before asking where the bots were at the moment. "They're in the kitchen cleaning up after breakfast." Said Jared. "Why so concerned?" The guard insisted they talk outside.
"Is there something wrong sir" Jared asked worriedly. "Jared, I'm sorry to say but you're going to have to replace bot 80809." Replied the guard. "Are you crazy?" Jared whispered angrily. "That bot has been serving my family since I got married to Maria and the kids would never let that bot go!" "I know its going to be hard for them but you have to let it go, it expires in two months, you know what that means." Replied the guard. The two were trying to stay quiet as not to let the kids or Maria know what's going on. "I know, I know, expiration equals obliteration." Jared replied sadly.
The next day Jared took bot 80809 to the decommissioning yard to dispose of it before obliteration. "At least they recycle these things" Jared mumbled to himself. "Hey Jared, I haven't seen you here in a while, what's going on?" Said Joe. Joe had been a long time friend of Jared's since high school, he works at the decommissioning yard. "Well I gotta get rid of 80809, the wife and kids won't be happy" Jared replied as he set 80809 onto the wire. "Man, they are going to be so bummed when they find out." Joe mumbled in disappointment. "Don't worry Jared, I bet they are going to love the new 2.0!" Joe exclaimed. "Yeah, I hope they do."
Jared was driving home when he saw a man running from the guards. "Well, as citizens duty, I have to help." He said with disappointment. He pulled over his vehicle and started chasing the man. About half an hour later the guards had no idea where the man had gone, but Jared was hot on his trail. The man jumped down into the drainage ditch and stopped at the end just before the purification pit. "I'll jump in man I'll do it" yelled the man. "If you jump in you're just going to create sorrow and guilt for your family sir please step away from the edge!" Jared yelled. "My family doesn't care they don't want me!" Replied the man in anger, now in tears. "I'm sure someone in this world will miss you." Jared assured the man. "It doesn't matter Jared, I know who you are!" Replied the man. "Wait, Is... Is that you Zach?" Said jared confused, Zach was declared dead ten years earlier by the hospital, they had been in a car accident, a shard of glass had punctured Zach's throat. "Yeah, its me Dad." Said the man. "The son you left behind." "You don't care about me do you?" Asked Zach.
"Zach..." Jared said with sorrow. "I'm sorry son" "I didn't know you were still alive, they told me you died." "I held your lifeless body in my arms" Jared was crying. He started sprinting towards Zach as he moved closer to the edge. "ZACH!" he screamed in misery. "DONT JUMP!" Zach dove into the water and got sucked into the purification pit. "NO!" Jared screamed. A man walked up behind Jared and pulled him away from the edge. "What the hell are you doing?" Asked the guard. "Its... Its Zach, he jumped off." Jared cried. "Sir, no one was there." "Who is Zach?" The guard wondered. Jared didn't respond. "Sir?" "What's your name?" Jared had passed out from the stress.
Three days later he woke up in a hospital room, he couldn't speak. He couldn't move at all. He watched as his wife and kids walked out the door. Glancing over at the heart monitor he realized it said he had died. Frozen in panic, Jared sat staring at the ceiling. The doctor walked in and put a needle in Jared's arm and everything went black.
