The day before the two were to be wed, Hypnos appeared behind Comastus in the woods.
"Who are you?" Comastus inquired.
"Theresa belongs with me." Hypnos growled.
"She loves me, I will not have anyone ruin our wedding!" Comastus roared ready to fight.
"Have it your way..." Hypnos mumbled.
He raised his staff and hit Comastus right on his head. Comastus crumpled to the ground in pain. Theresa came running into the scene. "Who are you? And what have you done to my love?" She knelt down beside Comastus, stroking his brown hair.
"I am Hypnos, the one who guarded you from your mother. We are meant to be, Theresa," He reached out to touch her face. She jerked herself away.
"No, we are not. Comastus is my love. You must heal him!" Tears sprung from her eyes and she slumped to the ground.
"I'm afraid I can not. He is in a deep sleep, and will not be able to come back for years," He frowned realizing how poor his plan truly was.
"LEAVE! NOW!" Theresa screamed wiping tears from her face.
Hypnos disappeared leaving Theresa weeping by Comastus.
Medics from all over Greece came to try and wake the son of the King of Patrai. No one could find a cure to this state Comastus was in. No one has ever seen anything like this, so they named the condition of Comastus, calling it a coma. They concluded the cause to be major head traumas or an attack from Hypnos.
After many failed attempts, Theresa told the King how Hypnos said this 'coma' would last multiple years. After hearing this, the king demanded his son to be put in his room and guarded until he awoke.
Theresa visited everyday, hoping one day Comastus would finally awake. Her visits were soon in vain, and never wanting to love another; Theresa lived depressed, hating Hypnos and mourning over Comastus, alone, until she died 4 years later.
6 years had passed since Comastus was put in this coma. One early morning, one more person awoke in the castle. The birds chirped as Comastus arose from his 6-year coma. The whole palace rejoiced, except for Comastus. He longed to hold Theresa in his arms. He blamed Hypnos for all that happened. He never forgave the god's acts made in jealousy.
Comastus ended up living to an old age. He ruled Patrai without a queen by his side. He ruled in hatred of Hypnos, who ruined his chances with the love of his life. But most importantly, Comastus ruled to keep his city safe, and make his one and only true love proud.
Hanging above his throne is a painting of Comastus in his bed with Hypnos looming over him. This was a reminder of how strong their king was. It also represented the first ever coma.
