Jack is 8 in this.

Jack's POV:

I don't know why but the surface was always so interesting. Everyday, I would get on my favorite rock and look at the beach that I live near. My parents were out hunting and this was now my perfect chance to look at the white sandy beaches. It was so pretty and so amazing. If I could, I would jump on the beach and walk all around, the warm sand beneath my feet and the feel of the wind. I looked over and saw the sand with umbrellas, arm chairs and beach toys. Most of all, I saw people on the beach, enjoying themselves and having a really fun time. I always wanted to feel their mood. Their happiness laying and playing on the sand and having so much fun. Alas, it still could never happen. As I stared at the beach, I noticed that a boy was walking far away from everyone else. I got curious and started to go into the water and swim towards  the boy. I popped my head up ever so often to see if the boy has seen me. Then, the boy finally stopped and got his bucket and started to scoop into the water. I know that place. It's the famous spot for some animals who loved oysters and clams. I got behind a rock and started to stare at the boy, who was still scooping into the water. He looked so happy and enjoying himself. I stared at him from my hiding place until I realized that the boy was looking over here. When I squinted to see him, I realized he was looking at me. I blushed and got back behind the rock. I hope he just ignores that and goes on to doing what he was doing.

Mark's POV(he's 9):

I was excited today. My mom, dad, and my brother Tom were going to the beach today. I always loved the ocean and it's wonderful creatures so I got my bucket and little shovel and so I can get some seashells. As I bounced happily in my sit, mom and dad were talking about grown up things and my brother was listening to music. He never really liked to go anywhere with us. I guess my bouncing got out of control because he placed his hand on my head and forced my head to stand still. I looked at him and he had a very grim stare. "Stop.....bouncing." He removed his hand and went back to his phone. I shrugged and looked out the window to see the beach and the people around. I couldn't wait. The car stopped and everyone got out of the car especially me cause I jumped out and ran to the edge of the beach. The water looked so amazing! I was about to get on the beach when suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked up to see my dad looking at me with a smile. "Son, don't go rushing on the beach just yet, wait till we get all the stuff from the car." He then walked back to the car to get our stuff and I shifting in my spot. Ugh, why won't they let me out onto the beach already.  I can go on the beach on my own. Then, my brother was right there looking over the scene. "Pfft, what's so great about the ocean anyway?" "IT'S AMAZING." "THE SIGHTS, THE ANIMALS IT'S SO COOL!" He looked at me weird and I went back to looking over the beautiful ocean. Then I heard my mom and dad close the doors and they had all the stuff from the car. I jumped excitedly and I think they could see it as well. "Ok Lil Mark, you can go now." "YAY" And with that, I was off. I played in the water for awhile and tried to find shells. There were none so far so I made my way to the other side of the beach and it was a shell paradise. Shells were everywhere and I was so shocked and fascinated. I ran down a path to them and started to pick up every good shell I see. As I picked up shells, I looked up at the ocean. I breathed in and out to get the ocean air. Then, I saw something behind a rock near the shore. It almost looked like it was a person. Then, the head popped back into my view and immediately forced his head back behind the rock. I knew for sure it's a person. I then rolled up my pants and got into the water. As I got in more, the water was almost up to my chin. I started swimming towards the rock and grabbed for it carefully. When I grabbed the edge of the edge of the rock, I pulled myself onto edge and kept myself afloat until I find who this person was. I circled the rock and saw a boy about my age covering his face with his arms and looking scared. I came closer to him and then I saw that he had something on his neck. It looked like gills, but that couldn't be. I then placed my hand on his shoulder and tried to get his attention. "Hello, are you alright?" "Are you hurt or anything?" He jumped up and I saw his face more clearly. He had light brown hair with some grey stripes in it but it's not that obvious. He had beautiful blue eyes that were actually the ocean if you look at it. I looked down at his hands and saw that they were webbed and looked slimy. In fact his whole body looked slimy but still normal. He tried to go away but I stopped him before he dunked into the water. "Wait, I want to help you or something." He stopped and looked to me. His eyes were filled with terror and also curiosity. He swam a little closer to me and grabbed onto the rock as well. "H-hello, a-are you a human?" I looked at him weird and cocked my head to the side. "Um, yes I am real human." "Aren't you a fellow human?" He blushed red for some seconds and looked down. "Um, well, you could call me human, but half human." He looked like his face was red like my dad's flannel. "Hey, it's ok." "Can I trust you human?" He suddenly said with a serious face and tone. I nodded my head furiously and then he took a deep breath and exhaled. "Go underwater and you'll see me." He dunked into the water and I grabbed all the breath I could and dunked my head into the water as well. When I did, I had to get my eyes adjusted to the water. The ocean looks amazing. I saw fish swimming around coral and different things going on. I then looked straight and the sight I saw almost made me scream. It was the boy and he looked normal. Except for the fact that he had a tail like a fish. It looked glistening and pretty. I swam towards him looked at his tail. I smiled and looked at it for awhile. He just floated there and blushed a little. He swam back up and so did I and I was trying to catch my breath. "You're a merman?!" I said enthusiastically and my face was heated with excitement. He looked down and blushed again. "Y-yes, I am." I stared at him for a minute. "Wow, that's so amazing." "I knew the ocean was filled with amazing things but I never imagined this to be one of them!" I was then talking on and on that I noticed him smiling at me and giggling. "Hey, I never got your name" "Oh, it's Jack." "That's a nice name, my name's Mark." "Mark?" His accent was a little thick and cute. "Yeah, I also like your accent, it's very nice." "T-thank you." "Hey, I saw you look for shells earlier, I could help you find some really good shells." My excitement grew so much I thought I was gonna explode. "Yes, I would love to have some shells." He then lifted up his hands from the water and made a little bubble. He put the bubble on my head and he pointed down to water. I grabbed some breath and went down with him. As I dunked down, I felt air around me. I let go of the air that was in my cheeks and realized I could breath. Jack took my hand and we started to go down deeper into the water. All on the ocean floor was seashells everywhere. I saw a Jack picking out some and putting them in the bucket. I grabbed some as well and put them all in the bucket. My bucket was filled with shells in about a few minutes the shells were kind of floating up. I put my hand over the bucket and started to swim up and Jack followed with me. "Look how many shells we have, and they're all so pretty." Jack nodded and we laughed. We relaxed on the rock for a bit and we looked at the sunset. Then I realized that it was time for me to go. I jumped back in the water and held onto the rock, and Jack was looking at me weird. "Do you have to go now?" I nodded and I grabbed my bucket and started swimming. "Can you hold my hand while I swim to the shore?" He blushed at me and got in the water as well. I grabbed his hand which was slimy and felt weird. I grabbed on tight and we started swimming towards the shore. When I climbed up on the shore, I looked back at Jack who was waving goodbye. I waved as well and before I could take another step, Jack said something. "Will you come back tomorrow?" I turned around and started to walk back to Jack. I bent down to his level and held out my pinkie. "I promise that I'll be here." He held my pinkie with his and made the promise. I then heard my brother screaming for me. "HEY MARK, WHERE ARE YOU, IT'S TIME TO GO." I stood up quickly and grabbed my bucket and started to run towards Tom. "Hey Tom." "Have you've been over there the whole time?" "Yeah, I was collecting shells" He rolled his eyes and walked back on the beach. I ran after him and I saw my mom right there with dad collecting the stuff. "Mom, Dad, can we do this tomorrow?" "Sure son" Dad said as he grabbed the umbrellas and cooler. "Oooo, what pretty shells you have." I looked down at my bucket and saw all my shells I collected. "Yeah,  I collected all these shells" "Nice, maybe we should go back since you love these shells so much." I nodded and we all walked to the car. When we got home, I ran upstairs to my bedroom and put the shells beside my bed. I then noticed something. I looked in the bucket and saw a green glow coming from it. I picked it up and it looked so pretty. I got in bed after changing and held the seashell to my chest. I don't know why, but it reminds me of Jack and his green glowing tail. I liked this shell very much and I fell asleep with it in my arms.
