Mark's POV:

As I woke up the next morning, I saw a faint glow on it and I lifted my head a little. "Hmmm, why is the shell glowing so much?" As I said that, the shell glowed a little more. I then looked at the shell and tried to figure out why was it glowing. Then, brother came bursting in and screaming in my ear. "HEY MARK, TIME TO WAKE UP, MOM'S MAKING BREAKFAST." I grabbed the pillow and covered my ears with it. "Alright Tom, I'll be there in a minute." "WHAT?" "I SAID I'LL BE THERE IN A MI-" "Hey no screaming twerp." I got red with anger and got out of bed. I grabbed the shell and put it in my pocket and I walked the stairs to the kitchen. "Oh hey Marky, has your morning been good?" I nodded and sat at the table. Mom served my favorite which was bacon extra crispy, an omelet with extra cheese, and orange juice. As I ate, I had the urge to grab the shell and look at it more, but mom and Tom would ask me what happened or something. "So, Mark, since the beach isn't that far from the house, do you think you could be a big boy and walk by yourself?" "Me and father have to go to work soon and we know you wanted to go to the beach but I have a feeling that you could make do, right?" I lightened up and ran upstairs ignoring my plate on the table and getting ready. I grabbed my bucket again(He dumps them either in a box or a bag. I then changed into my swim trunks and an old shirt and ran downstairs. "Bye Mom." "Oh bye sweety-" I didn't let her finish as I ran out the door and ran to the beach which was only three blocks away. When I got there, only a few people here which was perfect. I went to the edge of the beach and behind the giant wall of rock and I walked towards the place I was picking the shells and saw Jack holding himself with his arms on the edge and waving his tail around. "Hey, Jack" I said and walked over to him. He perked up and waved at me. "Hey Mark." I walked over to him and sat down with him. "So, you wanna collect seash-" "Wait, Mark, I want to show you something." He pointed to my pocket and I started to dig out the shell that was glowing out of my pocket. "You want this?" "I thought it was pretty and just kept it, did you put it in the bucket?" He nodded and he grabbed my hand with the shell and helped me open it. When we opened it, a picture of the ocean seen and it played a faint tune. It sounded beautiful. I listened to it with my eyes closed and enjoyed the sound. After what felt like forever, the song cut out all of a sudden. I opened my eyes quickly and I saw Jack sitting there smiling. "How do you like the song?" "It's beautiful, but why so short?" "It's not." He dunked into the water and I started to get curious. I dunked my head in and saw Jack getting something off the ground. He swam back up and saw me. He stopped in front of me and booped my nose. I smiled and pulled my head back. He resurfaced and showed me the thing he picked up. It was a pink shell. I looked in awe as it glowed like the shell in my hands. I put my shell next to his and then the shells started to glow. The song played, and this time it was louder. The melody was so beautiful and slow. I closed my eyes again and started to drift off into my daydream. Then after about forever, the song stopped. "So, is this why you wanted me to have the shell?" He nodded and pulled his shell back. The glow stopped and I held it to my chest. "I'll cherish this forever." He smiled and I felt my heart melt in all the kindness that he shared. "Alright, let's collect shells." I jumped up and cannonballed into the water. I resurfaced and I saw Jack laughing. "Alright, let's do this." He made his bubble for me and we started to dive for shells.

Five hours later~

When we were finished, his bag and my bucket was filled to the brim with shells of all color. I looked over to the sand and saw my green shell laying there. I got out and grabbed the shell. I put it on top of the bucket and I sat down criss cross. "How was today's shell hunting?" "It was fun, I really liked it." I looked at the shell and smiled. "Hey Mark, w-will you answer this question for me?" "Sure, ask away." "Well, you have a human family and I would like to meet them, but I don't know if they'll like me." I looked at him for a minute and blinked. "Jack, I don't think my family will be the best people to meet, but I know someone who could." I stood up and started to run. I stopped and looked back at him. "Uh, wait right here, I'll be right back." I then ran again and ran to my house. When I opened the door, I saw my brother laid on the couch asleep and snoring. I walked past him and went to the phone. I called the three people I know will keep a secret.

1 hour later~

I was waiting with Jack, working on something. I got both our shells and started to work on them. I'm turning them into necklaces for me and Jack. Jack was so curious that I kept hearing splashing. "Come on Mark, show me please?" I rolled my eyes playfully and laughed a little. "Hang on Jack almost done." I got the final pearl on the other side of Jack's necklace and I tied the string together so it would stay on our necks. "Alright you ready?" I looked behind me and saw him nod furiously. "Ok, now close your eyes." He nodded and covered his eyes with his webbed fingers. I walked up to Jack and put his necklace on around his neck. He giggled and started to move around. "OK, open" I saw his eyes turn into wonder and happiness. "Mark, I love it." He held his necklace close to his chest and I did the same thing. "Yeah, I thought it would be a safe way, to keep near us at all times." He smiled and hugged it closely. I then heard footsteps and started to jump up and down. "Ok, so go to the rock and when I whistle, you'll swim to me and I stick my hand in the water." "Then I'll reveal myself." I nodded and he started to swim towards the rock. All my friends were here right now which was good for a nine year old(you guys remember). "Hey, GUYS OVER HERE" I saw them all. Felix, Bob, and Wade. "Hey bro, what's all the commotion about?" "I want to show you guys something, but promise me that none of you will tell a soul." "Yeah, what's the world is going on here?" Bob said with a 'something's up' face. "Well, I want to show you something, come on." I led them the edge of the beach and we all sat there. I made sure everyone was here and then I whistled. I looked back at the guys and they all looked at me strange. "Mark's, what's going on?" Wade said with his weird face. "Don't worry,it'll be cool."

Jack's POV:

I heard the whistle and immediately took action. "Hmm, that's my cue." I jumped in the water and began to swim to him. I saw his hand and head go into the water and him smiling. I giggled and swam towards him again. He looked at me and smiled and it looked like he was telling me to stay there. I did and waited and then I felt his hand on my head. I guess that meant come up. I lifted my head up a little and saw three new humans. A tall blue eyed, dark blonde hair, another tall brown haired human, and another tall kind of stout human with glasses and kind of blue eyes. I lifted my head up a little more and showed my whole face. "Hey, it's just a dude." The dark blonde human said. "No, he's much more." Mark said. "Jack, this is Felix,Wade, and Bob." "Guys, this is Jack." I waved shyly at them and they all kind of came closer. "Hey, what's with your hands?" "Well, I kind of need them to swim, along with my tail." They looked confused until I lifted up my tail up and showed them my green slimy tail. They all jumped backwards and me and Mark laughed. "So, will you guys keep a secret?" They all looked at each other. "Mark, are they good humans?" He nodded and I looked back at the three humans. "Well, yeah, this is huge." Felix said. "Yeah, he seems pretty cool." Bob said. "You guys, this is so cool I can't believe." Then, Mark looked at the sky and looked worried. "Guys, we have to go home." They all awed and I looked sad as well. "Don't worry Jack, I'll come back tomorrow." We waved good-bye and I dived back in the water. I swam all the way the cave and I slumped myself down. As my tail hung low, I opened the locket and listened to the song. "Hmmmm, I will love this forever." And with that, I drifted off to sleep.
