" Abby its time to get up get up. We gotta do some work in the garage today remember" her dad said throwing up the curtains. Abby through the blanket over her face to block the bright sun. " What the hell dad. Was that really called for" she groaned? Her dad just laugh as he walked out of the room. " I'm heading to the garage. I'll you see you there" he said. "Yea yeah i'll be there in 20 minutes" she said throwing off her covers.
She walked over to closet and grabbed the first thing she saw. Which just happened to be her favorite AC/DC band shirt and ripped jeans? She walked into her bathroom and jumped to into the shower. Once she was done she threw on her clothes, did her hair, and grabbed some breakfast before heading to the garage to meet her dad.
Abby didn't have the same job most 16 year old girls had. Instead of working at the mall or something like that she worked with dad at his car repair shop. Abby didn't care that wasn't what most normal teen girls or even guys did. She enjoyed working on all the cars and it gave her a chance to spend time with her dad.
" I'm here" she said climbing out of car and walking into the the shop.
Hey come give a hand with this will you" her dad called.
Abby walked into the garage to see her dad leaned over the hood of old truck. " Who's trucking working on" she asked.
" It's davids" her dads answered. David was old friend of abby dads. He was practically her uncle.
" So what's wrong with it" she asked walking over to her dad so she could see what he was doing.
" It needs a new spark plug".
" Ok well I can fix davids truck" said abby, " why don't you go work on some things in the office".
" Thanks sweetheart you're a big help" her dad said leaning down and kissing the top of head.
" Hey working on cars is in my blood remember" she said smiling at him.
" Well David is coming to his truck at lunch. Think you can have it done by then" he asked.
Abby looked checked her phone for the time. It was 11:30. Davids lunch was at 12:30. " Yeah I can be done by then" she said reaching over to grab something out of her dads tool box.
" That's my girl" her dad said before walking back inside.
" All right lets do this" abby said. She grabbed the hair tie off wrist and pulled her hair into a ponytail. Then she turned on one of her playlist on her phone and started unscrewing the bolt that held the spark plug in place. Just as she got it off her phone start ringing. " Hello" she said. " Hey" answered the voice on the other end, " What you doing?"
Abby was a little shocked at first to hear toby's voice. She still wasn't used to him calling her.
" Nothing much really I'm just working" she answered.
" Where do you work" he asked?
" I work at my dads car shop over by the mall" she answered.
" Do you think it would be cool if I came over and hung out".
" Depends. You wanna help me change a spark plug".
" Sure I love cars".
" Ok. Well I guess I'll see you soon then".
" See ya in 10 minutes".
" Ok, bye" abby said before hanging up the phone. She felt like screaming but she didn't wanna freak out her dad , so see contain her excitement the best she could and just went back to working. Just as she was about to take a break Toby pulled into the parking lot.
" Hey" she said as he walked over to her.
" Hey" he answered, " Pretty old truck you're working on".
" Yeah it belongs to a friend of my dads".
" Cool, what year is it".
" I think its a '63. I could be wrong. Hole on a sec I gotta go ask my dad what he did with the parts".
" Hey dad what did you do with all parts" abby asked as she stepped into her dads office. " There in the cabinet over by where the spare tires are" he answered. " Thanks" she said walking back out to the garage where the truck was. She to the back where all the tire were and opened up the cabinet. " There it is" she said pulling out the part she had been looking for.
She walked back to the front where she had been working on the truck. " Ok found what I needed" she said setting down the new spark plug on top of the tool cart. " Can you do me a favor' she asked turning towards toby who was leaning against the side of the truck. " Yeah " he answered.
" Can you stand over and hand me tools when I need them" she asked.
" Sure" Toby answered.
" Thanks" she said leaning over and turning her music back on. As abby worked she started to sing along with music. Toby started to laughed when he realized what song she was singing. " Rolling Stones, really" he said. Abby pretended to be offended by the comment. " Don't go hating on the rolling stones" she said. " I'm not" he said with a laugh, " I really like the Rolling Stones. I'm just surprised you do. You didn't strike me as a girl that would like rock music". " Hello. Did you not see my shirt" she said pointing to the top she was wearing. " No actually I didn't but that is super cool" he answered.
The two them talked and worked for a hour before abby finished. " Well looks like davids here to pick up his truck" she said. David walked over and gave abby a big hug. " Hey Abby. How is my favorite girl" said David. " I'm good David. Long time no see" she said smiling. " Yea it's been to long. So how is my baby doing" he said turning to look at his truck. " She all fixed up" abby said tossing the keys to David.
" Great, thanks abby. I wish I could stay and chat but I gotta get back to work" he said jumping in his car. " I'll see ya later" abby said as he started the engine and took off. " So that was the your dads friend we were fixing the car for" toby asked. " Yea that's David. Him and dad have been friends a long time" she said. " Well I gotta head home got some stuff to do. I'll text you later" toby said walking to his car. " Bye" abby said.
" Hey dad I think I'm gonna head over to sammy's for a bit and just hang out" she said walking into her dads office.
" Ok just be back by 9/9:30 for dinner" said her dad. He stood from the desk chair he had been sitting in and gave abby a big hug.
" I will dad" she said.
" See you later gator" her dad said with smile
" see ya later" she answered. Abby had always enjoyed spending time with her dad, he pretty funny.
