"Hey, if you connect those stars together, you get a bunny!" Hiccup exclaimed, pointing at the sky. It was late. I was tired, but Hiccup was just so excited to finally have someone around to gaze upon the stars with, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to hang out with him.
"Hmmm... If you do that with those," I pointed to a cluster of stars." You can see what I wanna do to Snotlout!"
"Why? All I see is a fist....Oh." He laughed.
I snorted along with him. It had been three days since I came to Berk, and I was leaving tomorrow. I must say, it was fun staying on Berk. Teasing Snotlout, pounding stuff with the twins, and reading with Hiccup and Fishlegs, ah, that's the life. But I was far away from home, where my best friend Anna awaits. She must be dying to hear from me. We've never spent more than two days without each other. Hiccup would be delighted to meet her. Hey....What if... Hiccup went back with us to Latia? Yeah, that's a great idea!
"Hey Hiccup?" I started slowly.
"Yeah?"
"How would you like to go to Latia? With me?"
"Of course I'd love to go! I'll just have to get my father's permission!" He jumped up from the ground, elated.
"But what if your dad says no?" I asked, sitting up. The grass tickled me as I did, but I ignored that.
"He wouldn't say no. He wants to get rid of me. I'm not the Viking he wants me to be. He wants strong arms, fast legs and a muscular body!'Look at this scrawny fishbone! Does this qualify as a Viking? No!'" He said in a squeaky strangled voice. His mood seemed to have dropped to a mixture of bitterness and sour feelings as he impersonated his father. His green eyes dimmed and tears seemed to glaze over.
I stifled my laughter at his horrible acting skills and pulled him back down to the grassy land. We stared at the brilliantly lit sky for like an eternity. I could hear his sniffles.
" Hey." I spoke softly.
"Hey?"
"Nobody wants to get rid of you. Your father was probably just worried that you couldn't protect yourself! But that day with the Terrors? You protected me and yourself. You were the one that lead us out of danger. You are strong and brave, sometimes people just don't see that."
He turned to face me and grinned a lopsided grin, showing his crooked front teeth. He wiped away his tears with one of his oversized tunic sleeves and laughed.
"You are truly a n amazing person Astrid. Thank you."
I punched him on the left shoulder.
"Ow! What was that for?" He squeaked, rubbing his shoulder.
"That, was for ever doubting yourself."
I pulled him closed and gave him a big hug.
"And that, was for everything else." I whispered..
And that was how we stayed for the rest of the night, under the vast, glittering night sky.
Short chapter, yes.
Next one should be a bit longer, I guess.
