I laughed as me and Hiccup raced each other to the very heart of the forest, or so Hiccup said. It was so,well, what can I say? Green. I just love green so much! Hiccup's eyes are green. Came a sinister voice out of nowhere. (A/n just in case you're wondering, I'm breaking the fourth wall here.) I looked around me and saw no one but Hiccup.
I chuckled as the panting body of a fishbone came over, covered in sweat. "I swear to Thor, you are fast. I nearly tripped over seven rocks when chasing you around!" He bent over, gasping for air." Aw, I'm sorry for being too fast for your twig-like feet to catch up..." I teased. "But I just can't stand anything that's slower than a yak on fire and lost its way in a sheep pen. Speaking of which, where are we exactly?" I looked around the place. Trees, trees and bushes. Uh-oh. Hiccup had stopped smiling once I asked that. He looked around. Oh, Thor. Don't tell me we're lost. Don't tell me we're lost. Don't -" We're lost." He concluded. Shoot. I hate you Thor.
We looked around the place, and suddenly, a strange lizard thing ,not unlike the one on Latia , came flying out of the bush near me. It set the bush on fire and started screeching.I fell back and grabbed a stick on the ground. How convenient. "Huh. It's a Terror. All alone. That's a bit uncommon." He frowned. Why do I feel like I'm being swallowed whole by a giant yakrat? "Why is it uncommon?" I squeaked. " uh, because they usually travel in...... Groups....." He was staring at me, no, something behind me with a horrendous face. He paled. I turned and nearly wet my undies. There was an entire tree of them. Thousands of beady eyes glared down at us, as if we were a delicious cup of warm yak milk on a freezing Snoggletog day. Their wings unfurled, fangs bared.
"Astrid? No.Sudden.Moves." Hiccup whispered. I tripped and I dropped the stick.Plop. "Shoot." I mumbled and Hiccup's eyes widened as big as saucers. Ripples of sound echoed through the tree of terrors and it was like slow motion as they moved as one. There was a deafening silence as they faced me and Hiccup. Then, all hel broke loose." Run, Astrid, run!" Came Hiccup's voice somewhere in the storm of wings and flame. It was a dizzying sight, but I stood my ground. I was no coward! I'm a Viking! "Raaaaahhhh!" I yelled out my battle cry and grabbed the stick I dropped from the slightly damp ground. I waved it around like a madviking and I could hear the sickening 'crack' each time I swung. From the corner of my eye, Hiccup was fighting his way over to me, getting slapped by a few wings here and then."Astrid! Come on! We can't fight these things! There's just too many!" "No! I'm winning!" With one swing of my stick, I hit another terror. It fell to the ground in a daze, but growled at me and flew off in a minute or so. The swarm of terrors was overwhelming. Hiccup was right. I wouldn't fight all of them. I couldn't. A hand grabbed me and pulled me out of the terror storm. It was small and calloused. Hiccup's. He ran off, still holding on to my hand, with the terrors still hot on our trail. He made a sharp turn and I nearly fell." Watch it, Haddock!" I shrieked." Sorry! But if we left a little bit earlier, we could've avoided this!" More turns followed, and I slipped and tripped after Hiccup. Darn, the ground was so slippery! " whoaaaaa! Oh Gods, oh Gods ohGods! aiiiieeeeeeeeee!" Hiccup screamed and I found myself running on thin air." Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, if we are alive after this I am going -" we smashed into a branch that hung desperately on the cliff."-to- " A bug in my mouth interrupted me."-bleh!KILL YOU!" After a few more seconds-albeit it felt more like hours- we landed on the ground. the good news? A tree cushioned our fall. And we lost the terrors. The bad news? The tree snapped in half when we landed and we fell in the freezing lake near the tree. And that the tree's parents would be really, really sad. Also, we had no idea where we were right now." Hiccup! Are-are you okay?" I asked the shivering ball of a Viking that had crawled onto shore."oh, ya know, f-freezing to death, n-no big deal! Why d-do you ask?" He said sarcastically. I looked at my skirt and sighed as they were half frozen from the cold.
I looked around. The place was quite serene, cut off from the other parts of the dense forest. Blue-green water flowed by a mighty half -frozen waterfall and into a clear pool beneath. Green patches of grass grew here and there, flowers of every color bloomed, even though it was very cold. The light reflected onto the broken pieces of clear ice, making them sparkle even brighter than any diamond that trader Johhan could've seen.
I stood there, admiring the beautiful scenery.
"Whoa." I turned around and saw Hiccup staring at the pool. He'd taken out a brown leather bound of paper, along with a piece of charcoal, and started sketching like mad. Each stroke created a part of the magical paradise. A few minutes later, he held up an exact replica of the scene before us in black and white.
" Hey! I never knew you could draw!" I elbowed him in a playful way.
He turned to me, green eyes brightened. "There are lots of thing you don't know, Miss Astrid Hofferson. Stick with me and you might find out more....." He trailed off, grinning and wiggling his eyebrows.
"Whatever."I smirked as I poked him in the eye.
"Ow! Why would you do that?" He flinched.
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because."
Silence.
"Because what?"
I groaned. This was getting nowhere. So I changed the subject." Oh forget it. What are you going to name this place?"
"The question should be what we name this place. Hmmm.... I'm thinking...."
"The cove." We both said at the same time. I smiled at him. This trip was definitely worth the trouble. Even just after a few hours of knowing him, he was definitely best friend material.
Hiccup quickly jotted it down on a map he drew. "Actually, we're not far from the less creepy, none-terror territory, which that part I can navigate ourselves to the village! Wanna head back?" He nodded his head towards another direction. I looked around. As much as I would hate to leave this place, I was starving.
I took his outstretched hand and said," out of the woods we go."
