I could still hear Merlin's protests as I lept over a log and plunged into darkness. I panted, as I searched for the monster that took my mother away from me. And I would soon take vengance.
I had been running for a good long while until I finally came across the monster. It was in a clearing, very small andd very remote. It stood picking out Arthur's sword and my arrows easily, just looking irritated. I stood behind a tree, gawping at the sight. I only had one arrow left. This was it.
I crouched behind the moss engulfed rock. It took the slightest move to make me shiver. My brown eyes burned with the yearn for the monstrosity before me, to be dead. To end the troll race, forever. A few of my red locks had fallen lose from my braid, and were flying wildly around my face. The wind was picking up pace as I lifted her head, looking at the monsters chest. But obviously I had not been quiet enough. The troll spun on its heel and shrieked with happiness. It had heard me, but hadn't seen me. its black beady eyes darted from rock to rock, looking for a strand, a wisp of that familiar red hair. My braid was tucked neatly down the back of my cloak and my skull was covered by my velvet hood. I tucked the few free strands of hair behind my ear and pranced silent and graceful to a tree, closer to the monster. The troll however had no idea that a young girl was hiding behind a tree, not even 30 feet away. Despite the clever history and characteristic of the troll having a tiny brain and not being able to tell a threat from a mushroom, they were the complete opposite. The trolls were smart and knew how to wield a sword or two. It wasn't often that they were outsmarted, only by the smartest wizards and most powerful warlocks, could they be defeated. Never had a mortal girl set foot in the valley of the trolls, never mind 20 feet from one itself. I drew in a sharp ( but silent ) breath as the troll turned round again. I held that breath, longer than she usually could, praying that it wouldn't hear her. I pressed her back to the cool, bumpy surface of the rock in order to keep out of sight of the troll. But not for long. I silently drew my last arrow and aimed at the monster, the iron tip of the arrow glinting menacingly toward its chest through the bushes and thicket. I waited for the exact moment, as soon as it spun round. It must have heard my heavy breathing, for it turned round with force that shook the ground. I wasted no time in drawing the arrow back as far as it would go, releasing it so the flight left a tiny little scar, just underneath my left eye. Barley there, but still visible.
The arrow flew through the air and landed at an unsespected target. I had aimed for the beast's heart, but it had turned, and the arrow was now firmly lodged into the joint between the trolls claf and thigh. It roared in pain and rage, and it's club flew free from it's grasp. It collapsed and growled, darting it's eyes everywhere to look for the culprit of his injury. His beady eyes landed on mine as I emerged from teh shadows. He growled in disgust as I unsheathed my mother's blade. My bow was on my shoulder as I walked over to the beast, the wickedly sharp blade ready to kill. I glanced over to the wound with heavy eyes. Green blood trickled down it's leg, dropping in a pool on the floor. The beast groaned in frustration and fury, a mix of which was infuriating to the thing. "i'm sorry." I said to the creature. "but you know what you did. You know what pain you caused me. and so, I only seek equality. you took my mother's life, and so I will strip you of the privalage of your's." I said. there was no heartfelt words spoken nor any tears shed, as I struck the blade into the torso of the animal. I blocked out the sound of pain, the sight of green ooze, the feel of pity yet triumph, as I knew I had finally avenged my mother. I was done.
When I got back to Merlin, he was grinning like a maniac. "You did it! Look!" he said, pointing to a particularly large stone on the ground. I couldn't help but smile a little too. How could I not? I had now completed my first quest. I was undoudably triumphant.
Arthur was awake too. "It must have been some kind if miricle. that Troll had a mighty swing if that club! well done, Maria!"
"Or a bit if magic?" I said under my breath as Merlin and I started to make our way to the temple. he shot me a wink as he sped on ahead, as he was going to find Morganna.
When we got to the temple, Morganna lay unconscious and pale. I brought my whistle out from my cloak pocket and blew on it. I heard nothing, but I knew Medallion could. an soon enough, he came through the trees and bracken, along with prime and Lance. I mounted Medallion and patted his neck as Merlin propped Morganna up behind Arthur, before mounting his own horse. "let's go home." I sighed. I had completed my very first quest and had made equality on my mother's name. Arthur and Merlin agreed without hesitation.we all kicked our horses on and headed for the great castle shiloueted against the setting sun. Camelot, home.
