Chapter One:
“Hello little brother!” I said with a mischievous grin.
“Hey! I’m sixteen, which is by no means little! Look at these babies!” He replied, holding up his big arms and giving each bicep a kiss.
“Oh, my bad, E-man. Didn’t mean to get all up in yo’ grill.” I said, making little signs with my hands and flailing them around.
“Yeah, you better back up! E-man is about to raise the roof!” He then busted out into the “raise the roof” dance, along with some crazy gyrating. It should have been disturbing, him being as big as he is and my brother, but I was so used to it that I couldn’t help but crack up.
He was still dancing when we heard mom call out, “ELI LOGAN CARTER! GET YOUR BUTT DOWN HERE! NOW!”
“Dude,” I said, sitting down on his navy blue bed, “what did you do this time?”
“I got a parking ticket.”
“ELI! WHERE ARE YOU!?!”
As Eli ran down the stairs I heard him whine out, “But mom! It wasn’t my fault!”
I laughed, falling back onto his soft comforter. Poor, poor little Eli. He’ll probably be grounded for at least a month. Or four. He always seemed to get himself into bad situations. Now that I think about it, this whole family was really good at that.
I was still lying on his bed when he came back in, looking dejected.
“How long?” I asked, sitting up.
“One month.” He muttered.
“Lucky! I remember when I got grounded for 3 months because I got a speeding ticket. That is just so not fair.” I huffed, crossing my arms over my chest.
“Well,” he grinned, “I guess they just love me better. Or like me more. Or both.”
“Ha, whatever helps you sleep at night.”
“I’m not the one that needs the help. I can always hear you at night, in your sleep. What do you dream about anyways?”
I sighed, laying back down again. “If only I could remember. I only ever get quick glimpses, and they don’t really make any sense. Though, I suppose maybe my dreams just don’t make any sense, because they are, after all, dreams. They can be about anything and everything.”
Eli didn’t say anything, but laid down next to me about a foot away.
“When I was younger I used to spend hours trying to figure out what it was that I dreamed about.” I turned my head to the side, facing him. “But after a while I just stopped trying to analyze it. What’s the point? They’re only dreams.”
His head turned to mine before he replied, “I bet they’re pretty awesome. Mine are all about old ladies in tights and dinosaurs.” I quirked an eyebrow at him. “Yeah, I know they suck. Don’t remind me.”
“Haha, whatever, granny boy.” I jumped up and ran out of the room, locking my door just before Eli tried to enter my room.
