I looked around the room and saw everyone looking at me as if to stall. I took a deep breath and looked at Saphire and she shifted her weight.
" Well I guess I will start off then. So um you are not a human." She started off.
" Yes I am. Why would you think any differently? I look and act like one." I became more confused than before.
" No you are not, and just give me a second to explain." Saphire frowned and looked straight at me.
" Um ok then." I backed up to the back of my couch. My mom set her hand on my shoulder and I looked at her. I could tell from the look on her face and the searching from her eye's that she wanted me to trust her.
" Even if this were true," I paused and looked around the room and into everyone's. I could see that they were all concerned and they didn't want to show it. " Wouldn't there be records or something that would show that this was all true?" I asked still looking for an explanation showing me clues to what was going on.
" That is true but all records of this were burned are in some way destroyed." My mom said taking her hand off my shoulder. She was some what worried and even though she tried not to show it. She was just like that in her own ways. She could never hide the way she was feeling no matter how hard she tried. What is so wrong that it had everyone in the room so worked up? Even I was getting a little anxious about the whole thing.
" I guess I could try and summarize it for her." Saphire said.
" There is a summarized version?" I said quickly.
" Yes and be quiet I am trying to explain everything to you. Ok so you are part of a royal family or at least you and your family were. My family was one of many that were the guardians of the royal families." She began but I interrupted.
" So there was only one royal family?" I asked.
" Pff um no. There were many and many more families that were guardians. You were just one." Sapphire responded. I still was uneasy about this but then I desired to think. What was there to think about? This was all just to crazy to even be real. Was this some practical joke? Then there was a gun shot that flew through the window and hit the wall next to us.
"GIRLS YOU HAVE TO GO!" My mom came over and started pushing us into another room and out the back door.
" But mom?!" I could feel that I was about to cry. I didn't want to leave. Not now when I didn't understand. There was nothing that I could understand anymore. I didn't know who I was, what was happening, and why it was happening.
" Sweety I know it's confusing but you have to go! We will see each other again I promise." She said hugging me. Saphire grabbed my arm and started to pull me along with her to the gate of the back yard. My mom quickly went back inside and shut the door behind her. I saw her at the window and with a smile she waved goodbye for the last time.
" Goodbye mom." I whispered and stopped just to wave back, and then there in the window I saw it. A man behind her just standing there, or at least I thought. Until her smile fade and her body slowly slide down hitting the ground.
Saphire once again started to pull my arm though it seemed harder this time. I could tell that she saw the man too just standing there taunting me with a small smile. For hours it seemed we ran until we stopped for us to catch our breath.
"How much longer Saphire?" I asked. I felt out of breath even though I knew I shouldn't. I was not sure why but I had a feeling that it had to do with the shock that I was dealing with. I obviously was not controlling my breathing so that could have tired me out.
" We have to keep moving Skyla. If we don't they will catch up with us." She seemed to also be out of breath.
" Who is "They" exactly?" I asked. It was confusing to me that nothing like this had happened when I was younger. If these people or things were after me why didn't they come after me when I would think I was more vulnerable?
" Honestly I don't know and that is the problem. If these people are after us then they might ha e been watching us. I am not sure for how long but I can tell you one thing. It was long enough to notice something was off about me, or the resent outbursts you have been happening." She was very focused and I could tell she was thinking of more possibilities.
" If they are after us we should get going though. We can't stop for long or they will catch up with us sooner than later." I started to feel like I knew what I was doing, but at the same time the shock started to leave and I broke down. I put my hands of my face and just stood there and cried. I was sure that Saphire wanted to help but she also didn't come over to me so I think she was giving me space and time to calm down.
" Look Skyla. I'm sure that we are far enough that we have time to rest. Why don't you take some time to sleep or just have some more time to urself? I will wake you in a little bit and then we will head back out. I know a place to go and it might take some time but it is worth it." She smiled and it comforted me a little.
" Well I guess, but what about school? If we are not there and our parents don't answer there phones then they might send the police for a search and rescue. Especially if they go to my house and find my parents dead." It's was true and Saphire knew that, but she also did not look concerned. She just stood there waved her hand and said.
"Ya I know but I can call act as your parents and unenroll you. Easy as 1..2..3. Or at least it is easy if you can change your voice to sould like other people." She held up three of her fingers and smiled.
" Alright." I agreed then walked to a small bench and sat down. It was not quite dark but it was just right to be able to get some sleep.
