Nina and Matt: Frost oneshot

I decided to do a one shot based on new years. Hope you guys like it :) dedicated to one of my fave authors, @hepburnettes i read all of her books and just obsessed with her writing

Breathing out a long sigh, Nina looked at herself one last time in the mirror before going to this New Year's party. With her red dress that reaches to her knees and white six inch heels, she fluffs her wavy brown hair to see if it's out of place. No smudges of mascara, maybe a little more lip gloss on my lips, she thought to herself. Her green eyes and pale skin reflected the lamp in her room as she made one more swoop of nude lip gloss on her pink lips.

"You look beautiful" a voice whispers in her ear. She smiles at Matt, her boyfriend of four years. Light brown eyes and blonde hair, he had a way to make feel better and less nervous. He surprised her with a key to his place on Christmas Eve for an early Christmas gift; she surprised him with the new XM radio for his car since he's picky about his music. She held onto his arms that were around his waist, glancing at his outfit which was black slacks and a blue button down shirt. Exhaling contently, she said thank you and laid her head on his shoulder.

"You ready for the new year?" he asked her.

"Kind of but I'm not sure that we should tell them yet" she said in a worried tone, turning to face him.

"Why not?"

"I just don't think that they would be happy about it"

"They will. Isn't it your parents' annual new year party?" He asked and she nodded slowly. Her parents always threw a small get together for family and friends, ringing in the New Year with dancing and a small prayer when midnight hits. Not a lot of alcohol but just a little bit so people can drive safe and not get stupid drunk. It's been a tradition since Nina was nine years old. But this year, she's just not up for it because she has to tell her family a secret that she's been holding in for a month.

"Your parents are gonna think it's amazing. We've been together for four years since college, it will be fine"

"But-"

"No" he put his index finger on her lip. "It will be. Your sister knows and she was ecstatic about it, so will your parents."

Pursing her lips, she considered his words but was still having second thoughts. At the age of 23, she didn't think that she would be pregnant. She always thought that it would happen when she was thirty or at least married to Matt at 26. That was her plan. When she found out, she actually thought that Matt would be furious. They both have steady jobs, her at a magazine company and him at corporate business. She is still working on her masters on engineering and he's stressed out on passing the bar exam to become a lawyer. When she told him, he was surprised but happy at the same time. "I'm gonna be a daddy" he said to her and hugged her tightly.

"I don't think my dad will be happy since I'm still in school"

"Which will be ending in six months and you'll graduate. It's the best time, baby."

"Ok, you're right. Let's go ring in the new year" she smiled truthfully to him as she nodded. Leaning in, he kissed her lightly on the lips then kissed her on the forehead. "I love you babe" he murmured to her.

"I love you more" she said back.

Looking at the time, it was around ten pm. The party started at eight, Nina told him before that it's good to be a little late since the real fun doesn't start until after midnight. He let go of her then grabbed both of her jackets and she took her clutch and phone. Ready as I'll ever be, she said to herself then they walked out of their apartment.
