Chapter 11 - Brother

DEREK'S POV.

After leaving Venessa's, I went home and showered. Once I was done, I got out, dried off, and changed into a clean pair of shorts. I was a little hungry, so I went to the fridge to get a blood bag. After finishing it, I was headed to my room when I saw something on the floor by my door. I walked over and saw it was a piece of paper. I picked it up and unfolded it. It was a note, I read it..

Hello Derek,
Long time no see. I see you've found your soulmate. Interesting news is, I want her. Better keep her close before you lose the thing you've always wanted.
See you soon, Brother

When I finished reading it, I crumbled it up and threw it across the room. How is he going to just come back into my life after everything I've done for him? He was dying and I saved him. HIM out of everyone in my family. I could have saved my lovely sister or mom or dad, but my parents said to help my siblings first. By the time I saved him, everyone else was gone.

Ever since I changed him and tried to teach him my way, he freaked out destroying the town we lived in. Did I forget to mention he's my twin? We look similar, but there are still a few differences. He has green eyes with black hair and his skin is also lighter than mine, but sometimes people still mistake us for each other. This was how he destroyed so much of what I've had. He hates me for saving him and not the rest of my family. He doesn't understand how hard it was for me to even turn him and not be able to help everyone else.

I went into my room and put on a black t shirt. I grabbed my wallet, keys, and phone then went back to Venessa's.

VENESSA'S POV.

It was around midnight when I woke up to my phone vibrate. I picked it up and saw it was Derek.

I'm coming in

I turned my light on and opened my window. I looked out and saw him motion for me to back up. I did as he wanted and before I knew it, he was in my room. "What are you doing here?" I asked him confused but hugged him before he could answer.

"I'm just worried about you. I don't want anyone to hurt you.. I've decided I'll be coming over this time every night to make sure you're okay," he said then paused. "I mean if that's okay with you?"

I looked up at him and smiled, "Of course it's okay with me." I kissed him then he smiled at me.

"Good," he said then gave me a quick peck. "Now you should go to sleep, we have school tomorrow." I nodded and got into bed. He turned the lights out then got in bed next to me. I put my head on his chest and he put his arms around me to pull me closer. I fell asleep shortly after that.

I woke up the next morning and was expecting to have arms around me, but when I sat up Derek was gone. I got up and saw a note on the side of my bed..

Goodmorning Nessa,
I didn't want Nick to see me so I left a little early, but hope you slept well. I'll see you in school.

I smiled to myself then went to get ready. I took a quick shower then dried my hair and braided it to the side. I put on mascara then went to pick out my outfit. I put on my dark skinny jeans, gray tank top, and black Nike jacket with my black n white Nike shoes.

After I was done getting ready, I grabbed my phone and backpack then headed down stairs. I saw Nick was sitting in the living room eating cereal and watching family guy. I rolled my eyes then went to get an apple. I ate it then threw the core away. "Come on, Nick, can't be late!" I yelled into the living room then walked out to the car. Nick came out shortly after and we headed to school.

When we pulled up to school, I saw Derek waiting for me with a smile. "Bye, Nick! See you after school!" I said waving 'bye' to him as I walked to Derek.

"Be safe today and pay attention!" Nick called out jokingly to me.

"Hey, babe." Derek said when I reached him and I smiled.

"Hey!" I said happily then pecked him on the lips.

"You seem extra cheerful today," Derek said then grabbed my hand and we walked into school.

"Yeah, well I got a lot to be 'cheerful' for," I said but mocked him when I said cheerful.

He laughed and said, "and what's that?"

"Well you, and everything. I mean life's just good.. Because you." I said then blushed and he kissed me on the cheek.

"I love you," he whispered into my ear then kissed my cheek again. I smiled to myself and we went to my locker. We made it to first period right before the bell rang.

The day went by quickly, but I could tell something was bothering Derek. So, when he came over after school to work on our project, I was going to ask him about it.

When we got to my house, we walked up to my room and started the project. It stayed quiet until I broke the silence. "What's been going on?!" I said almost shouting because it blurted out. He looked up sorta of shocked so I continued. "Something has been bothering you all day. You haven't been acting yourself." I said and he sighed. I sat closer to him and said, "Can you tell me what it is?" I looked at me and sighed again. He looked like he was talking to himself about what to say. "Derek," I whispered and his head shot back up to me.

"I'm sorry, I just- I don't want you to be freaked out or worried if I tell you.." He said.

"Well just tell me, we need to be able to tell each other everything," I said and he nodded.

"Well my brother-" he started but I interrupted, "Your brother? You didn't say you had a brother."

"I don't talk about him much because how everything ended.." He said and I saw his eyes water. I grabbed his hand and he looked at me. I gave his hand a right squeeze telling him to press forward with what he had to say. "Well when my family died, he was in the accident to. I saved him because my parents said to save my sister and him first. My sisters heart already stopped beating so I couldn't save her. So, I went to my brother and saved him by turning him. By the time I saved him, my parents were gone. He blames me for not saving them. So, he destroyed our town and everyone in it. He didn't want to learn my way and how to live. He's also my twin, except he has black hair and brown eyes. His skin is also lighter than mine but for the most part we look alike," Derek paused. He looked at me with sad eyes then pulled something out of his jacket pocket. He handed me a crumbled-up note and I read it.

"But- I mean- what does he want with me?" I said scared and what the message his brother left him said.

"He just hates me and wants me miserable. I can't let him hurt you, Venessa. You're mine and I love you. He can't have you or hurt you. I won't let it happen," Derek said then kissed me long and hard. I nodded my head and we just went back to our project.

By the time we finished our project, Nick was home and cooked dinner. Me and Derek went down and ate with Nick. It consisted of small talk and topics on school subjects. After we finished, we cleaned up and Derek "left". I went said goodnight to Nick then went to my room, which Derek had already ended back up in.

"I already went home and showered," Derek said as I walked in and I laughed. I changed in the bathroom and brushed my teeth. I turned the light out then got in bed with Derek. His arms were around me and my head was on his chest. This was the best way to sleep for me. "I love you," he whispered then kissed my forehead.

"I love you too," I said then my eyes quickly drifted shut.
