chapter 4 - Brother

Venessa's POV

When Derek left, I order pizza. Nick came home shortly after and we ate while watching a movie. After the movie, we cleaned up and I went to my room. I showered and went to bed.

I got up at 6 o'clock. I walked into my bathroom to wash my face. When I was done, I did my hair and makeup. My hair was lightly curled, and my makeup was a thin line of black eyeliner, mascara, and a little foundation. I went to my closet and picked out my light ripped skinny jeans, my gray sweater, and my black converse. After I finished getting ready, I went down stairs to eat breakfast. Nick was already down stairs eating cereal. I walked in and made toast. It was now time to leave for school. Me and Nick went to his car and he drove us.

When we got there, the parking lot was already full. I got out of the car and saw Ella. I waved 'bye' to Nick and walked over to Ella. "Hey, Ella." I said and she looked at me smiling. She ran over and hugged me, then we linked arms walking into school.

"So did you hear about the new boy?' Ella asked.

"If his name is Derek, then yes. I already met him." I said and she looked surprised but quickly recovered.

"Well I guess you will have to introduce me to him." she said and we both laughed. We walked to our first class (we had the same first class). We sat in the middle row to the left. All the seats were now full except the one right next to me. Then the teacher and a guy walked in. When the guy looked up and I saw his face, it was Derek. The teacher introduced him, then Derek walked down and sat next to me. The whole period, I felt Derek's eyes on me. When the class was over, I walked to my locker. When I closed my locker, I turned to go to my next class but hit something. When I looked up, I saw it was Derek.

"Oh, hi. I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention... again" I said finishing it off as a whisper.

"It's ok." he said and smiled. "so is the offer to show me around still available?' he asked.

"Yea, of course, let me see your schedule." I said and he handed it to me. I looked at it shocked. He had the same schedule as me. "Um, well you have the same schedule as me, so I can just walk with you to each class." I said and he smiled from ear to ear.

Morning classes finished and now it was lunch. I walked in, with Derek following close behind me. Everywhere I went, girls were glaring at me because Derek was with me. All the girls at school wanted to be with him. I don't really know why he talks to me. I mean come on, I'm just a shy and nerdy girl in high school. Why would Derek even talk to me. I walked over to where Ella was sitting with my brother and a few of his friends. I sat down next to Ella and Derek sat next to me.

"So, Nessa, this is the new kid Derek?" Ella asked while smiling and I nodded. "Well cool!" she said then looked to Derek. "Hi, I'm Ella." she said then reached out her hand. He shook her hand and smiled.

"Nice to meet you, Ella." Derek said.

"Well who's this?" my brother, Nick asked firmly.

"This is Derek. He's new to the school." Ella said still smiling.

"Well what is he doing sitting here? Someone invite him?" Nick asked. I know he sounds mean by the way he's talking, but he's just very protective of me.

"He's my friend, Nick. I've been showing him around the school." I said and he started to smile.

"Ok, sorry." Nick said then turned to Derek. "I'm sorry, man, I'm just very protective." he said and shook Derek's hand. "And by the way, I'm Nick." Derek just smiled and nodded. I think Derek likes them.

Lunch finished and we all went to our next class. Since it was Science, me and Derek just partnered up. We were given a small project that's due on Friday. The rest of the day went by fast. I was at my locker getting my things. It was nice because Derek's locker was next to mine and so was Ella's. My brother and his friends lockers were right down the hall from mine. Nick was already at the car waiting for me and Ella already left. When I was about to leave, I saw Derek. "Hey, Derek, where are you going?" I asked.

"Oh, I have to walk home." He said walking toward me.

"Well I can drive you if you need help, but I was wondering if you wanted to work on our project after school?" I asked.

He smiled and said, "Yea, of course, sounds good." We started walking to my brother's car. Nick was already in the driver's seat, so I got in the passenger's seat and Derek got in the back.

"Hey, Nick, how was your day?" I asked.

"Good and yours?" Nick asked.

"Good, there was no troubles." I said and he leaned over to kiss me on the forehead. He always does that because that's what our dad used to do. Nick always has been like my dad too after ours left.

"Well that's great, I'm glad nothing happens." He said. Normally I was pushed around by other girls because they said I wasn't pretty enough or didn't dress right. No one says anything when Ella's with me or Nick but when they're not, I get made fun of.
